As the Engineering Lead for the company, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the backend architecture and ensuring the success of the technical initiatives that support this growing platform.

You will act as the engineering lead within a squad, guiding the team on architectural decisions, establishing best practices, and making sure the team executes with technical excellence. You will collaborate closely with frontend technical leads to keep backend and frontend services integrating smoothly, and you will lead the technical strategy for backend development. Your leadership will be critical in driving innovation, performance, and reliability for the backend services that millions of people rely on every day.

What you'll do

• Act as the engineering lead within a squad, guiding architectural decisions and technical execution.
• Establish and enforce best practices for backend development, code quality, and delivery.
• Lead the technical strategy for backend development and the platform roadmap.
• Collaborate closely with frontend technical leads to ensure smooth integration between services.
• Design and evolve microservices and event-driven architectures built around reliability.
• Drive performance, scalability, and uptime for services serving millions of users.
• Make pragmatic decisions about infrastructure on the cloud platform the company uses.
• Guide testing practices so that changes ship safely and regressions are caught early.
• Mentor engineers in the squad and help them grow their technical skills.
• Work with product and program counterparts to translate business needs into technical work.
• Maintain a strong security posture across backend services and data handling.
• Champion observability and reliability practices, including monitoring, alerting, and incident response.

Requirements

• Strong experience building and leading backend systems with modern JavaScript and Node.js.
• Deep understanding of microservices and event-driven architecture patterns.
• Solid experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL in production.
• Working knowledge of containerization with Docker and orchestration with Kubernetes.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing approaches.
• Familiarity with messaging systems such as Kafka for distributed processing.
• Experience working in the cloud, preferably with Google Cloud Platform.
• Proven ability to lead a squad and make sound architectural decisions under pressure.

Nice to have

• Experience with the NestJS or Express frameworks.
• Background in financial services, fintech, or payment platforms.
• Experience with serverless architectures and event-driven workloads.
• Understanding of reliability engineering, SRE practices, or large-scale operations.
• Interest in financial inclusion and emerging-market fintech.
