Specific starting compensation within this band is determined by experience, qualifications, and geographic assignment. This is an office-based role requiring presence five days per week, with flexible hour arrangements available. Position Overview The Global Payroll Manager serves as the central authority for payroll strategy and compliance across the enterprise. This position defines, establishes, and governs the global payroll framework while providing direct oversight for United States and Canadian operations. The role does not involve day-to-day management of payroll in other regions but focuses on strategic leadership, vendor oversight, and risk mitigation. The manager acts as the global subject-matter expert, collaborating with regional Human Resources, Finance, Legal, and Global Mobility teams. Core Responsibilities Global Payroll Strategy and Governance The manager designs and owns the enterprise-wide payroll strategy, including the operating model and long-term roadmap. This involves establishing global standards, policies, controls, and documentation to ensure uniformity. Key duties include developing compliance and risk management frameworks, audit readiness, and internal control structures. The manager also creates governance models for vendor management, escalation procedures, and executive decision-making processes. Global Oversight and Strategic Partnerships A primary duty is providing strategic oversight of in-country and regional payroll providers without direct operational control. The manager partners with regional HR and Finance leaders to ensure alignment between global standards and local regulations. They serve as the central escalation point for complex payroll, compliance, or regulatory issues. Monitoring enterprise-wide payroll performance involves tracking key metrics, service levels, and governance effectiveness. North America Payroll Leadership The manager oversees end-to-end payroll operations for the United States and Canada. This includes ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and strict adherence to regulatory compliance. Responsibilities cover payroll tax governance, controls, filings, remittances, reconciliations, and audit preparation. The manager ensures that North American operations are consistent with global standards and leads year-end closing activities. Technology and Vendor Strategy Defining the global payroll technology strategy is a core function, covering system selection, integrations, and future-state architecture. The manager leads global vendor strategy, including requests for proposals, contract negotiations, and consolidation efforts. They work closely with HRIS and Finance teams to maintain data integrity, reporting accuracy, and system interoperability. Stakeholder Engagement and Leadership The manager acts as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on global payroll matters. They translate complex regulatory and operational topics into clear insights for executive decision-making. Leading global payroll transformation, standardization, and scalability initiatives is a key aspect of the role. Required Skills and Qualifications
- Demonstrated expertise in payroll compliance, tax regulations, data privacy, and governance models.
- Hands-on experience with United States and Canadian payroll operations.
- Proven history working with global payroll vendors and in-country providers.
- Advanced proficiency in global payroll and HR systems, such as Dayforce, Workday, ADP, SAP, or similar platforms.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with a strong emphasis on discretion and confidentiality.
- Superior analytical, organizational, project management, and problem-solving abilities.
- Demonstrated capability to conduct root-cause analysis and drive continuous improvement.
- Experience managing complex payroll inquiries.
