As a Ruby on Rails Engineer, you will work closely with a small engineering team to build and ship features on a Shopify app used by hundreds of brands, acting as the critical human layer in a modern AI assisted engineering workflow where agentic tools propose plans and write code based on task tickets. Your primary responsibility is to deeply understand the product and codebase, review and validate AI generated proposals, catch what does not make sense, and ship confidently.

What you'll do

Review and validate AI generated code proposals to understand architecture and catch edge cases before they cause problems.

Approve or redirect AI generated code suggestions based on your deep understanding of the product and business logic.

Ship features end to end within a Shopify app used by hundreds of online brands and merchants.

Triage bugs and tasks while working with agentic coding tools to resolve them efficiently and accurately.

Maintain platform stability and ensure consistent code quality across the entire application and its integrations.

Collaborate closely with engineering leadership to guide product direction and make informed technical decisions.

Help establish engineering practices as the small team continues to grow and scale its operations.

Deeply understand the existing codebase to effectively review machine generated programming proposals and identify flaws.

Identify logical flaws in agentic tool outputs before they reach the production environment and cause issues.

Ensure all shipped features align with the overall product vision and maintain strict technical standards.

Write clear documentation for AI assisted workflows to improve team knowledge sharing and onboarding over time.

Communicate effectively with the hiring partner team to clarify requirements and translate business needs into technical tasks.

Requirements

Strong Ruby on Rails experience with hands on development of Shopify applications is absolutely required for this role.

Comfort working in an agentic coding environment where you review AI generated code critically and provide guidance.

Maintain an active GitHub profile showing recent and consistent shipping of code contributions to real projects.

Demonstrate strong written English communication skills for effective collaboration across distributed remote teams and partners.

Possess a startup mindset characterized by being scrappy, collaborative, and completely free of ego or bureaucracy.

Understand the nuances of Shopify app development and the platform's specific architecture and limitations.

Have the ability to triage bugs and manage tasks efficiently within a small, fast moving engineering team.

Value platform stability and code quality as foundational elements of the daily engineering and development process.

Nice to have

Familiarity with AI development tooling such as Claude Code or Codex is a definite plus for this position.

Experience working within a fully remote, fast growing startup environment that scales quickly and embraces change.

Background in e commerce SaaS platforms that focus on customer loyalty, membership, and cash back infrastructure.

Knowledge of Brazilian labor regimes and international payroll systems like Deel Employer of Record is helpful.

Practical notes

Compensation is $5,000 to $7,000 USD monthly based on experience and seniority level.

Contract type is CLT under the Brazilian labor regime managed via Deel Employer of Record.

Salary is communicated in USD equivalent but paid in fixed BRL through the Deel platform.

Your BRL salary remains fixed and does not fluctuate with exchange rate changes per EOR compliance.

Benefits include monthly payroll, thirty days of PTO, and a vacation bonus of one hundred thirty three percent.

Employees with at least twelve months of service receive the full vacation bonus when they take time off.

Sick leave is provided for fifteen days per year, and an annual thirteenth month salary is paid.
