Entrepreneur in Residence
Job description
Entrepreneur in Residence at Sierra Studio.
About the role
This role targets builders with product or engineering experience. The position focuses on rapid domain exposure and AI tool experimentation. You will chart an independent path inside a founder-first system.
Data roles turn raw information into decisions. Analysts query databases and build dashboards. Data scientists build models that predict outcomes. Data engineers build the pipelines that move and store data. All three work closely with business teams and need a mix of statistics, coding, and communication. Nearly every modern company runs on data teams, from startups to banks. A strong portfolio of past analyses matters more than degrees in many hiring decisions.
Key facts
What you'll do
Rapid exposure to multiple industries and technologies sharpens product instincts, as outlined in the EIR domain and technology exposure goals.
Recurring patterns and unmet needs across sectors are identified and documented through cross-industry analysis.
Development of Sierra's internal AI Roadmap for internal tools, research, and experiments advances tool and research iteration.
Pathways toward founding a new company become viable, charting your own path via program options.
Collaboration within another Sierra incubation as a co-founder becomes possible, joining another Sierra incubation as a co-founder.
Serving Sierra Studio clients while accelerating personal growth and team outcomes drives client and company service.
Requirements
Prior experience as a second or subsequent founder is required for this position, reflecting experience as a 2nd+ time founder.
An entrepreneurial mindset institutionalized by Sierra Studio culture is expected, aligned with the EIR culture attributes.
Comfort with AI-native tooling, experimentation, and rapid iteration is necessary for AI-native builders.
Ownership orientation, including low ego and high agency, is mandatory, demonstrated by working with a high-agency and low-ego team of potential co-founders / founding engineers.
Practical notes
This program operates under a remote-first model with flexible location options in the United States or Brazil.
Typical interview steps
Data interviews commonly include a SQL or coding exercise, a statistics question, and a case study. Candidates may be asked to design a metric, interpret an experiment, or build a small model. Some companies give a take-home analysis. Expect questions about past projects and the business impact of your work. Interviewers often evaluate how you communicate uncertainty and business impact, not only the math. Bringing a clean write-up of a past analysis to the interview is well received.
Good to know
The role emphasizes rapid learning, systems thinking, and AI-native experimentation.
Builders work with institutional support to reduce early-stage startup friction.
Equity and ecosystem ownership provide long-term upside and diversification.
The culture values growth mindset, collaboration, and founder-like accountability.
Tools and methods prioritize fast experimentation and real-world product iteration.
Questions to ask
Worth asking in any interview: how the team measures success, who the role works with daily, what the onboarding looks like, and what the company is trying to achieve this year. Asking what past hires did well is a strong final question. Keep the list short and pick the questions that matter most to you.
Career growth
Data careers grow toward senior analyst, staff data scientist, or data engineering lead. Many professionals specialize in machine learning, analytics, or infrastructure. Cross-functional work with product and engineering teams becomes more important at senior levels. The field changes quickly, so continuous learning is part of the job. Professionals who can translate numbers into decisions tend to advance fastest.
