Senior AI Product Builder
Job description
About the role
You own the full build loop for Automation Product and Strategy, defining how ShipBob's WMS integrates with automation hardware to lift productivity and quality across the fulfillment network and shipping the WMS-side product, integrations, and workflows that turn that strategy into operating reality. You are a builder and an automation strategist who uses the AI development toolchain to understand ShipBob's codebase architecture, generate working code against the actual repo, and ship to production with minimum engineering rework. You set the automation strategy for your domain, evaluating automation hardware options, deciding which are the right fit for ShipBob, and shipping the WMS integrations, workflows, and operator experience that make them productive on the floor. You operate in an AI-native pod alongside an AI Engineer, AI/Prompt Engineer, and Designer, and this role reports to a Director, AI Product Builder. You are responsible for outcomes, not just outputs, and you measure success by the impact of shipped automation on operations and customers.
Key facts
What you'll do
Independently own the full product loop for automation in the WMS, from AI-augmented discovery through story and spec authoring, AI-augmented prototyping, production-ready PRs, and outcome measurement.
Conduct independent customer discovery and synthesize research across tickets, interviews, behavioral data, and competitive signals using AI tools to surface patterns and insights.
Demonstrate deep functional and technical knowledge of owned products end-to-end, including the ability to demo independently to merchants and partners and analyze the competitive landscape and key differentiators.
Use AI tools independently to analyze product metrics, identify usage patterns, and surface anomalies, and define success metrics and kill thresholds at spec time without coaching.
Maintain a prioritized automation roadmap ranked by impact multiplied by speed, using AI tools to synthesize competitive intelligence, market trends, emerging warehouse automation capabilities, and customer insight into strategic inputs.
Identify the highest-leverage productivity and quality opportunities in ShipBob's fulfillment operations, evaluate automation hardware options, recommend the right strategic fit, and own the WMS-side product work that integrates them into the floor.
Independently evaluate whether a proposed solution fits ShipBob's architecture without requiring Engineering translation, including understanding service boundaries, data structures, and how merchant and partner API usage shapes data contracts.
Independently route changes through prototype-then-PR workflows, write clear story and spec documents that AI tools can act on directly, review AI-generated code before raising PRs, and drive a high PR promotion rate through consistent quality.
Set experiment hypotheses with explicit kill thresholds and make day-7 rollout or kill decisions based on AI-surfaced data and measured outcomes.
Perform additional duties and responsibilities as necessary to advance automation strategy and execution across the fulfillment network.
Requirements
You have 5+ years of product management, product engineering, or equivalent experience, with demonstrated hands-on AI tool usage in a professional context.
You can write story and spec documents that AI tools can act on directly, including state machines, business rules, data contracts, and edge cases, rather than narrative PRDs.
You possess technical fluency to read a data model, evaluate an API contract, and identify when AI-generated code deviates from the target architecture.
You have a track record of shipping working prototypes or production code, not just Figma mocks or slide decks.
You show strong outcome ownership by setting success metrics and kill thresholds at spec time and tracking them after launch.
You have experience working in supply chain, fulfillment, logistics, transportation, or e-commerce technology.
You have demonstrated experience shaping automation product strategy in a fulfillment, warehouse, or manufacturing context, including selecting automation hardware, integrating it with a WMS, and shipping measurable productivity and quality gains.
You are comfortable operating in a fail-fast culture where being wrong fast is a feature, and staying slow to look right is the failure mode.
You communicate clearly in writing, producing specs and documentation that others can act on without ambiguity.
Nice to have
Hands-on experience with the AI development toolchain, such as Claude Code, Driver.ai, Cursor, Replit, V0, or Figma AI.
Working knowledge of TypeScript, React, or Python, enough to debug AI-generated code and understand what the Engineer is reviewing.
Experience with warehouse management systems, order management, carrier integration, or fulfillment operations at scale.
Prior experience transitioning a product team from traditional SDLC to an AI-native operating model.
Working knowledge of warehouse automation hardware, including person-to-goods, goods-to-person, AS/RS, robotics, sortation, conveyance, pick-to-light, palletization (robotic and semi-automated), computer vision for dimensioning, item recognition, quality inspection, and similar systems, and direct experience integrating automation hardware into a WMS to lift productivity and quality.
