Forward Deployed Engineer III
Job description
About the role
You will own the end-to-end delivery of AI-powered automation that fundamentally reimagines how ShipBob handles People operations. You will act as the bridge between complex enterprise systems like ADP and Greenhouse and the teams that rely on them, translating messy human processes into reliable, automated workflows. You will take ownership of real problems, from employee lifecycle events to comp planning integrity, and drive them to production-grade reliability. This role gives you the freedom to design solutions while demanding rigorous attention to data governance and compliance. You will be responsible for ensuring every automation is observable, maintainable, and secure. If you are motivated by building systems that last and solving problems that matter, this is your opportunity to define the future of work at ShipBob.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Map and automate the full employee lifecycle, including new hires, role changes, terminations, transfers, and leave, by replacing manual email and spreadsheet coordination with orchestrated workflows that include SLAs, escalation paths, and audit-ready logs.
- Harden the comp planning infrastructure by implementing access controls, versioning, approval workflows, and AI-assisted benchmarking within the SecureSheets environment to ensure accuracy and security.
- Build a unified People analytics layer that connects ADP Workforce Now, Greenhouse, and Lattice into a governed data model, delivering actionable workforce intelligence to People leaders.
- Establish performance and goals connectivity by integrating performance data from Lattice into workforce decision-making processes, ensuring data flows seamlessly and reliably.
- Spend your first 60 days embedded across every People sub-function to listen, map, and construct a prioritized automation backlog that you own from conception through execution.
- Implement logging, monitoring, and alerting for all automations, and publish reusable modules to the Automation Hub to promote scalability and consistency.
- Document all production automations to handoff-ready standards, ensuring every automation that touches sensitive data receives Legal sign-off and complies with HIPAA and PII governance requirements.
- Take on additional duties and responsibilities as necessary to support the evolving needs of the People team and the organization.
Requirements
- Bring 5-8 years of experience working with enterprise HR systems such as ADP, Workday, SuccessFactors, or equivalent at an integration or implementation level, not merely as an end user.
- Demonstrate a track record of building and deploying AI-assisted workflows in production environments, not just prototypes or demos, but systems that run reliably.
- Show strong API integration skills by having built RESTful integrations from scratch, managed authentication and error handling, and created systems that do not fail silently.
- Exhibit deep access control design experience for sensitive data, with working knowledge of HIPAA requirements and hands-on implementation of role-based access controls in systems that handle PII.
- Display strong process thinking by taking poorly documented, messy workflows and producing clear system flows that expose every failure mode before writing code.
- Operate with high agency by finding work independently without needing a fully scoped project list to begin operating and delivering results.
- Have prior experience with Greenhouse ATS at an API or integration level, which is preferred and highly relevant to this role.
- Have a background in compensation planning tools or sales incentive software, preferred.
Nice to have
- Experience with data governance frameworks and data catalog tools.
- Familiarity with workflow automation platforms such as n8n, Airflow, or similar.
- Knowledge of compliance frameworks beyond HIPAA, such as GDPR or CCPA.
