About the role
Sentry is dedicated to assisting developers in swiftly resolving application challenges. The Developer Infrastructure team is responsible for building and maintaining the essential systems that empower Sentry engineers to efficiently produce high-quality software. In this position, you will concentrate on enhancing the tools and processes that facilitate the entire software development lifecycle at Sentry.

What you'll do
- Design, develop, and maintain tools that support both local and cloud-based developer environments to streamline workflows.
- Enhance the efficiency and dependability of continuous integration (CI) and continuous deployment (CD) pipelines to ensure rapid delivery of software updates.
- Establish and continuously improve standard operating procedures for the creation of new services and libraries within Sentry.
- Play a key role in the tooling and release processes for software development kits (SDKs) and other libraries, ensuring they meet the needs of developers.
- Develop metrics, dashboards, and systems to identify flaky tests, thereby providing insights into the health of deployments.
- Create tools that offer contextual information for engineers and AI coding agents within Sentry's infrastructure.
- Collaborate with various engineering teams to pinpoint and address infrastructure and developer experience challenges, ensuring a seamless development process.
- Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers to foster a culture of continuous improvement and learning.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to their professional development by sharing knowledge and best practices.
- Stay updated with industry trends and emerging technologies that can enhance Sentry's developer infrastructure.
- Engage with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications for new tools and processes.
- Document processes, tools, and systems to ensure clarity and ease of use for current and future team members.
Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in software engineering or a closely related technical field.
- Proven experience in guiding complex projects through all phases of the development lifecycle, from conception to deployment.
- Strong proficiency in Python, with a solid understanding of its ecosystem and best practices.
- Hands-on experience with Docker and managing container orchestration in live production environments.
- In-depth understanding of CI/CD systems and strategies for optimizing them for speed and reliability at scale.
- A track record of creating or significantly enhancing developer tools or infrastructure that improve productivity.
- Ability to influence engineering teams and promote the adoption of new standards or processes without direct authority.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with diverse teams.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving and a strong desire to improve the developer experience.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure.
- Experience with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools like Terraform or CloudFormation.
- Knowledge of monitoring and logging tools to ensure system reliability and performance.
- Previous experience in a startup environment, adapting quickly to changing priorities and challenges.
- Understanding of Agile methodologies and practices to enhance team collaboration and efficiency.
