About the role
This Senior/Staff Product Manager role owns the strategic vision and end-to-end success of a specific product area within Semgrep's Application Security platform. The hire will be responsible for defining and delivering world-class developer-focused product experiences that delight existing customers and unlock new market segments. You will deeply engage with customer problems, shaping the roadmap and influencing decisions that drive long-term business impact. Working cross-functionally, you will partner with Engineering, Design, Customer Success, and Marketing to translate complex user needs into pragmatic, high-quality solutions. Your contributions will directly affect every aspect of what we build and how we operate as a high-growth security company. You will leverage data and customer feedback to iterate quickly, ensuring the product reduces friction for developers while securing their code at every stage. What you'll do
- Entirely own a product area and its vision and strategy, and be responsible for its success in generating value to users and to the business.
- Be accountable for the commercial success of your product area through defined metrics and business outcomes.
- Engage deeply with customers and prospects to understand users' problems and help shape and prioritize the roadmap accordingly.
- Collaborate with Product Marketing to establish clear positioning and messaging for your product area in the market.
- Partner with Customer Success and Product Marketing to manage product releases and prioritize feedback from go-to-market activities.
- Partner closely with Engineering and Product Design to help ensure product excellence through feasible and user-centric solutions.
- Manage projects across the full life-cycle, from ideation and discovery through execution, launch, and iterative improvement.
- Use quantitative and qualitative data to track the success of your product area and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Help shape the culture of the fast-growing product team by mentoring peers and contributing to process improvements.
- Prioritize features and initiatives that reduce false positives and streamline security workflows for AppSec teams.
- Enable security teams to triage significantly fewer false positives by building intelligent, context-aware product capabilities.
- Ensure the product delivers fixes that integrate seamlessly into developer workflows without causing disruption.
- Work with security reviewers to validate product decisions based on real-world findings and emerging threat landscapes.
- Define and communicate a product vision that advances zero false positives as a practical reality for development and security teams.
Requirements
- 5+ years of PM experience managing software products from inception through launch and iteration.
- Experience owning a product line end-to-end and being accountable for the product's commercial success.
- Experience building products for engineering personas and understanding their unique workflows and constraints.
- Experience transforming complex user needs into pragmatic product solutions that balance depth with usability.
- Experience at a growth-stage company or the demonstrated ability to iterate quickly and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English for influencing stakeholders and articulating vision.
- Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with Marketing, Sales, and Customer Success to drive product outcomes.
- Strong analytical skills to interpret data, validate hypotheses, and measure product impact over time.
- Preferred: prior experience as an engineer or the ability to code, even if rusty, to better collaborate with technical teams.
- Comfortable working with security and development tools to assess workflow impact and integration requirements.
- Willingness to engage directly with customers through interviews, discovery sessions, and feedback loops.
- Commitment to building secure-by-design products that align with Semgrep's mission of securing code as it's written.
- Understanding of application security concepts, including code analysis, supply chain risks, and false positive reduction.
- Openness to feedback and adaptability in a rapidly evolving product and market environment.
Nice to have
- Prior experience contributing to open source security tools or developer platforms.
- Familiarity with industry standards and frameworks for application security testing.
- Background in AI or machine learning applied to code analysis and prioritization of findings.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and how security tools fit into developer workflows.
- Knowledge of compliance frameworks relevant to enterprise customers such as SOC 2, ISO 27001, or similar.
- Track record of mentoring junior product managers or contributing to product playbooks.
Practical notes
- This role is based in San Francisco and is hybrid; we require a minimum of 2 days a week in our SF office.
