Senior Software Engineer II
Job description
About the role
Join Samsara to develop the foundational platform for agentic systems, enabling the automation of complex operational tasks. You will be instrumental in building a core infrastructure that supports numerous intelligent agents, scaling from initial development to widespread production use. This is a chance to shape new products, define essential system components, and create services that other engineering teams will depend on.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Construct the central infrastructure for coordinating multiple agents, covering task planning, synchronization, execution, and error handling.
- Establish and implement core platform building blocks and abstractions to empower internal teams in creating and deploying new agents.
- Design resilient backend services and APIs for agent registration, state tracking, scheduling, and system monitoring.
- Architect systems capable of handling scale, ensuring reliability, and managing long-running processes involving many agents simultaneously.
- Work closely with teams developing agents to refine interfaces, development tools, and feedback mechanisms.
- Guide technical decisions in an early-stage, evolving environment where project scope may change.
- Take full ownership of systems from design and implementation through testing, deployment, and ongoing operation.
- Embody and promote Samsara's core values to foster a collaborative and growth-oriented culture.
Requirements
- A minimum of 4 years of professional software engineering experience.
- Proven ability in building and maintaining production-level systems with strong engineering principles.
- Significant experience in developing large-scale backend or distributed systems.
- Proficiency in Python programming.
- Solid system design capabilities and a focus on production reliability.
- Willingness and ability to work across the full technology stack as needed.
- Capacity to thrive in dynamic and less defined work settings.
Nice to have
- Experience with Go programming.
- Prior work with agentic or autonomous systems, orchestration frameworks, workflow management tools, or automation infrastructure.

About the company
Samsara takes its name from a Sanskrit concept that describes the continuous cycle of life, death, and rebirth. The term originates in ancient Indian philosophy and conveys the idea of cyclic change or wandering through existence. It appears in early Upanishadic texts and receives detailed treatment in Buddhism, Jainism, and various Hindu traditions. The doctrine is closely linked to karma theory. Liberation from this cycle is known by several names including Moksha, Nirvana, Mukti, and Kaivalya. The company applies this philosophical framework to modern industrial operations. Samsara builds connected operations platforms that help organizations manage physical assets and workflows. The technology combines hardware sensors with cloud software to provide real-time visibility. Customers use the platform for fleet management, equipment monitoring, and workplace safety. The system collects data from vehicles, machinery, and environments to improve efficiency. The company serves industries such as transportation, construction, manufacturing, and logistics. Samsara focuses on digitizing physical operations to reduce waste and increase safety. The platform integrates video telematics, environmental sensors, and workflow applications. The goal is to give operators a unified view of their operations. The company emphasizes reliable data and actionable insights for decision makers.
