Sr. Software Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to take ownership of the core systems that power AI agents inside Rula. In this role, you will design and deliver the foundational infrastructure that allows our product teams to build and deploy agentic features quickly and reliably. You will partner closely with product managers and designers to translate high-level requirements into robust technical solutions that scale. You will champion AI enablement by providing the tools, patterns, and documentation that help other engineers adopt modern development practices. A large part of your work will focus on developer relations, where you will mentor teams, run training sessions, and advocate for better workflows. You will be responsible for defining and maintaining the standards that ensure our platform is reliable, observable, and secure. This role requires you to solve ambiguous problems and drive technical process improvements across the engineering organization. Ultimately, you will help shape the long-term architecture that supports our mission of making mental healthcare more accessible and effective.

What you'll do

• Analyze current production workloads and architect scalable solutions that handle increasing agentic workloads while maintaining high performance.
• Build and maintain internal platforms and tooling that abstract complex AI workflows into reusable components for cross-functional teams.
• Implement robust integrations with large language models and third-party AI services, ensuring reliability, security, and cost-efficiency.
• Create comprehensive documentation and clear examples that lower the barrier for engineers to build with AI agents inside Rula.
• Design observability strategies and monitoring dashboards that provide actionable insights into agent behavior and system health.
• Collaborate with product teams to define technical requirements and translate business objectives into technical roadmaps.
• Lead code reviews and pair programming sessions to elevate the overall quality and consistency of engineering output.
• Partner with the developer relations team to create training programs that upskill engineers on AI tooling and best practices.
• Investigate and prototype new technologies, evaluating their potential impact on our agent frameworks and long-term platform strategy.
• Own the end-to-end delivery of critical features, coordinating with design, product, and data teams to ensure alignment.
• Establish testing strategies and automation that increase confidence in releases and reduce the risk of production incidents.
• Drive standardization across repositories and services to reduce duplication and improve developer experience.
• Use data-driven approaches to evaluate platform performance and guide decisions on infrastructure investments.
• Contribute to open-source projects and internal tools that showcase Rula's engineering excellence to the broader community.

Requirements

• Bring to the table 5+ years of software engineering experience delivering scalable production systems that handle real-world traffic.
• Demonstrate strong experience building with agentic coding tools, LLM integrations, and modern AI development workflows that are currently in use.
• Show a proven track record of developer relations or strong communication skills, with experience guiding, training, and upskilling engineering teams on new technologies.
• Highlight your ability to independently solve both routine and non-routine complex problems while driving technical process improvements.
• Illustrate a solid foundation in technical design, system architecture, and developer experience that has been applied in production environments.
• Provide evidence of your experience working within a larger, mature engineering organization where processes are well-defined.
• Share examples of your hands-on work designing and implementing agent frameworks or custom LLM-based systems that are currently operational.
• Describe your experience with modern cloud environments and CI/CD automation pipelines that support rapid and safe deployments.
• Explain how you have applied data literacy to analyze metrics, support architectural decisions, and troubleshoot issues in past roles.
• Discuss your experience collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders to align technical solutions with business goals.
• Talk about your familiarity with security best practices for AI systems and how you have implemented them in previous work.
• Reflect on situations where you have mentored junior engineers and helped them grow their skills in AI and software development.

Nice to have

• 2+ years of experience working within a larger, mature engineering organization where you have successfully navigated complex dependencies.
• Hands-on experience designing and implementing agent frameworks or custom LLM-based systems that have been deployed in production.
• Hands-on experience with modern cloud environments such as AWS, GCP, or Azure and robust CI/CD automation pipelines.
• Experience applying data literacy to analyze metrics, support architectural decisions, and troubleshoot issues using data and observability tools.
