What you'll do

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product management and design, to define software requirements and specifications for new features and enhancements.
• Design and implement scalable, high-performance software solutions that meet the needs of our users and align with Roku's technology standards.
• Conduct code reviews to ensure adherence to best practices and maintain high-quality code across the development team.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues, providing timely solutions to enhance system performance and reliability.
• Participate in the full software development lifecycle, from initial concept through deployment and maintenance, ensuring timely delivery of projects.
• Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous learning within the team.
• Stay updated with industry trends and emerging technologies, integrating relevant advancements into Roku's software development practices.
• Contribute to the development of automated testing frameworks to ensure robust and reliable software releases.
• Collaborate with DevOps teams to streamline deployment processes and improve system monitoring and performance metrics.
• Document software designs, processes, and technical specifications to facilitate knowledge transfer and maintain project continuity.
• Engage in agile development practices, participating in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives to enhance team productivity.
• Work closely with QA teams to define testing strategies and ensure comprehensive test coverage for all software releases.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in software development, with a strong focus on building scalable applications.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, C++, or Python, with a solid understanding of object-oriented programming principles.
• Experience with cloud services and platforms, such as AWS or Google Cloud, is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with front-end technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript frameworks (e.g., React, Angular) is a plus.
• Strong understanding of software development methodologies, particularly agile practices.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively within a team and contribute to a positive team culture.

Nice to have

• Experience with video streaming technologies and protocols, such as HLS or DASH.
• Knowledge of database technologies, including SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Familiarity with containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration tools such as Kubernetes.
• Previous experience in the entertainment or media industry is a plus.
