What you'll do
- Oversee the ongoing development of the C++ engine codebase that underpins foundational user interface features across some of the most popular games in the world, the Roblox application, and Roblox Studio
- Author, review, and refine API proposals that expose UI functionality to Luau, the fast scripting language derived from Lua that empowers millions of creators to build user-generated content
- Provide hands-on technical mentorship and career guidance to a team of senior engineers, helping them grow their skills while delivering high-impact projects
- Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and cross-functional partners to translate creative visions into robust, scalable technical solutions
- Engage with the external developer community to gather feedback, understand pain points, and ensure that new features align with real-world use cases
- Champion best practices around automated testing, code review, and continuous integration to maintain a high quality bar across the codebase
- Drive architectural decisions that balance performance, maintainability, and ease of use for developers with varying technical backgrounds
- Coordinate cross-platform initiatives to ensure UI systems perform consistently on mobile devices, desktop operating systems, and console hardware
- Identify and mitigate technical risks early in the development cycle, proactively addressing edge cases and potential failure modes
- Foster a positive, inclusive team culture that encourages experimentation, learning, and open communication
- Contribute to hiring efforts by interviewing candidates, refining job descriptions, and onboarding new team members effectively
Requirements
- At least eight years of hands-on software development experience combined with a minimum of five years leading engineering teams or managing people
- Strong proficiency in C++ with a deep understanding of systems-level programming concepts such as pointers, templates, memory management, and performance optimization
- Demonstrated experience working on game engines, real-time rendering systems, or complex UI frameworks
- Ability to design APIs and abstractions that are intuitive for a diverse audience including engineers, game designers, and UI designers
- Familiarity with three-dimensional mathematics and the ability to apply these concepts to build high-performance code
- Track record of creating detailed technical designs that rigorously handle edge cases and are backed by comprehensive automated test coverage
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical topics to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Proven ability to balance strategic planning with day-to-day execution, ensuring the team delivers on commitments while maintaining code quality

- Experience programming in Lua or similar scripting languages
- Background working on cross-platform projects that target consoles, mobile devices, or multiple operating systems simultaneously
- Familiarity with the Roblox platform, its developer ecosystem, or similar user-generated content environments
