About the role
In this pivotal position, you will be the first dedicated Quality Assurance (QA) engineer within the Safety Engineering Group at Roblox. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure the safety and integrity of the platform, which serves millions of users globally. You will collaborate closely with various teams to develop and implement comprehensive testing strategies for safety features and systems, ultimately contributing to a safer online community. This role presents a unique opportunity to influence the quality assurance culture within the organization and enhance the overall user experience.

What you'll do
- Collaborate with Engineering and Product teams to establish and maintain thorough, risk-based testing coverage for safety-related features and systems.
- Develop and manage the complete testing strategy for safety initiatives, encompassing functional, regression, integration, and edge-case testing.
- Utilize and enhance internal automation frameworks to automate essential user flows, focusing on API-first validation methods.
- Identify and prioritize high-impact automation opportunities, applying industry best practices to create robust and abuse-resistant testing scenarios.
- Create, monitor, and report on quality metrics such as defect trends and coverage gaps, proactively identifying potential release risks to stakeholders.
- Implement AI and large language model-driven solutions to minimize manual QA efforts and enhance the efficiency of test maintenance.
- Engage in root cause analysis to debug complex issues by analyzing logs and system behavior effectively.
- Communicate quality and risk trade-offs clearly to stakeholders, ensuring alignment across cross-functional teams.
- Lead initiatives to foster a culture of quality within the organization, setting the standard for future QA practices.
- Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in QA methodologies to continuously improve testing processes.
- Participate in incident response activities, ensuring that safety features operate effectively under high-stakes conditions.
- Mentor and guide junior QA team members, sharing knowledge and best practices to elevate the overall quality of the team.
Requirements
- A minimum of 4 years of experience in QA, particularly in technical or backend-driven environments, with a solid grasp of test design techniques and risk-based testing.
- Proficiency in API testing, including REST, JSON, and Postman, along with the ability to read and comprehend code.
- Hands-on experience with automation frameworks for both UI and API testing, as well as a deep understanding of automation architecture and maintainability.
- A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Strong analytical skills for root cause analysis, enabling you to debug complex issues effectively.
- Excellent communication skills, with a proven ability to convey risk and quality considerations to various stakeholders.

- Familiarity with machine learning or AI technologies, particularly in the context of QA automation.

Practical notes
This position is based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA. The starting salary for this role ranges from $187,780 to $223,660 USD, depending on various factors such as experience, education, and market demand. All full-time employees are eligible for equity compensation and comprehensive benefits. The work schedule includes onsite presence Tuesday through Thursday, with optional attendance on Mondays and Fridays.
