NVH Engineer
Job description
About the role
We are seeking a talented NVH Engineer to join our Drive Unit Team, where you will take charge of the noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) performance for our electric vehicle drive units and complete vehicles. This role will require you to blend simulation techniques, laboratory experiments, and vehicle validation processes to identify and rectify NVH challenges. Your expertise will be crucial in influencing product design from the initial stages all the way through to production.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Lead the NVH development process for drive units, belt systems, and entire vehicle platforms, guiding projects from their inception to full production.
- Develop and validate computer-aided engineering (CAE) models for drive units and vehicle systems, focusing on modal analysis and forced response evaluations.
- Align simulation results with laboratory and vehicle measurements, utilizing methodologies such as Modal Assurance Criteria (MAC) and Transfer Path Analysis.
- Execute NVH testing on vehicles, components, and dynamometers to detect sources of noise and vibration, as well as their transmission paths and receivers.
- Simulate and assess transfer functions and source characteristics to identify the primary causes of noise and vibration issues.
- Set NVH objectives, metrics, and acceptance standards for various vehicle systems and components.
- Recommend design improvements for motors, gears, housings, bearings, belts, and isolation systems to enhance NVH performance.
- Work closely with controls engineers to mitigate NVH through software modifications, including optimizing motor control strategies.
- Integrate electromagnetic, structural, and acoustic properties to improve overall system performance.
- Prepare vehicles and laboratory tests using a range of instruments, including accelerometers, microphones, and laser vibrometers.
- Collaborate with suppliers on NVH materials and technologies, such as acoustic barriers, damping materials, and vibration isolators.
- Create automated analysis tools using MATLAB or Python to streamline testing processes and data analysis.
- Communicate technical findings and design suggestions effectively to engineering teams and leadership.
Requirements
- In-depth knowledge of vibration, structural dynamics, rotational acoustics, and psychoacoustic principles.
- Moderate experience with NVH testing software, such as Siemens Simcenter Testlab or Head Acoustics.
- Strong proficiency in NVH simulation tools, including Simcenter 3D, Abaqus, Ansys, or Nastran.
- Experience in correlating CAE models with experimental results through MAC, modal testing, and Transfer Path Analysis.
- Practical experience in conducting vehicle, component, dynamometer, modal, and source-level NVH testing.
