DevOps Engineer

About the role

You will serve as the primary technical lead responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the end-to-end continuous delivery pipelines that power our government mission solutions. This role requires you to act as an emerging authority, driving the automation of infrastructure as code to ensure our deployment processes are repeatable, secure, and scalable. You will own the full lifecycle of our containerized applications, from initial architecture decisions through to production monitoring and incident response. The position grants you significant autonomy to define the standards, tools, and workflows that govern our operational excellence. You will partner closely with solution architects and developers to translate business requirements into robust, automated deployment strategies. This role is centered on building the foundational systems that allow our data insights to reach customers reliably and efficiently. You will be instrumental in fostering a culture of automation and quality across the engineering organization. Your work will directly influence the speed and security with which we deliver technology solutions that support critical U.S. national interests.

What you'll do

Architect and implement infrastructure as code solutions using modern configuration management and provisioning tools to define our cloud and on-premises environments.

Develop and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines that automate the build, test, and deployment processes for a variety of application stacks.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to containerize applications and manage container orchestration platforms to ensure high availability and efficient resource utilization.

Design and enforce security best practices within our pipelines and infrastructure, including secrets management, vulnerability scanning, and compliance controls.

Automate the provisioning and management of cloud resources, ensuring environments are consistent, traceable, and aligned with our operational standards.

Monitor system performance and reliability metrics, using data to drive improvements in our deployment processes and infrastructure resilience.

Implement logging and monitoring solutions to provide comprehensive visibility into our applications and infrastructure for proactive issue detection.

Lead initiatives to optimize the efficiency, reliability, and security of our existing deployment frameworks and operational toolchains.

Partner with solution architects to translate high-level requirements into technical infrastructure designs that support scalable and secure deployments.

Troubleshoot complex issues in production and pre-production environments, coordinating with development and operations teams to resolve incidents swiftly.

Evaluate emerging technologies and tools, conducting proof-of-concept projects to assess their potential integration into our operational stack.

Document all infrastructure configurations, processes, and procedures to ensure knowledge sharing and operational continuity.

Contribute to the development of runbooks and playbooks that standardize responses to common operational events and outages.

Act as a subject matter expert for DevOps practices, mentoring team members and promoting a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

Requirements

Must possess a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field or equivalent work experience.

Must have a minimum of eight years of professional experience in DevOps engineering, system administration, or a related role.

Must demonstrate a proven track record of designing and managing infrastructure using infrastructure as code methodologies.

Must have extensive experience with at least one major cloud platform such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.

Must be highly proficient with configuration management tools such as Ansible, Puppet, Chef, or similar technologies.

Must have a strong background in automating CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps, or GitHub Actions.

Must possess deep knowledge of container technologies including Docker and orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes.

Must have a solid understanding of networking, security principles, and compliance frameworks relevant to government environments.

Nice to have

Experience with government or defense sector projects and understanding of relevant regulatory environments.

Proficiency with monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or Splunk.

Familiarity with service mesh technologies such as Istio or Linkerd.

Experience with Infrastructure as Code security scanning and policy as code frameworks.

Practical notes

This position is based in Chantilly, VA and requires occasional travel to customer sites as needed.

Candidates must be eligible to obtain a U.S. government security clearance, and successful completion of a background investigation is required for employment.

The selected candidate must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have a valid medical or religious exemption verified in accordance with Redhorse Corporation policy.

This role requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Clearance, and all necessary vetting and documentation must be completed prior to project assignment.

New hires are subject to a probationary period contingent upon satisfactory completion of all required documentation and security clearances.

All employment is contingent upon the successful fulfillment of background investigation requirements and compliance with U.S. government contracting regulations.

You must be able to pass a drug screening as part of the pre-employment process for regulated customer positions.
