Senior Product Designer | Bankrate
Job description
About the role
This role owns the end-to-end user-facing product experience for the Bankrate website within the Brand Product squad at Red Ventures. You will operate as the sole designer on a small, fast-moving team, partnering directly with engineers to define, discover, and deliver solutions that shape how people interact with who Bankrate is. The position demands a blend of researcher curiosity, craftsperson precision, and technical confidence so you can make decisions that matter immediately. You will leverage AI tools not as shortcuts but as accelerators to move faster without sacrificing quality. Success is measured by the impact of your decisions across the full product arc from discovery to production delivery.
Key facts
What you'll do
Conduct deep product discovery before selecting tools, running user interviews and usability tests, synthesizing findings with AI assistance, and framing problems worth solving without a dedicated researcher present.
Own end-to-end design execution from early ideation through polished delivery, treating Figma as a whiteboard while producing outputs such as prototypes, code components, or high-fidelity specs that move the team forward at speed.
Partner with engineers as a fluent collaborator, using agentic coding tools like Cursor and Copilot, working with GitHub, and understanding component libraries such as shadCN, Tailwind, and Next.js to design what is actually buildable.
Apply and evolve Bankrate's brand and experience standards across every squad output, ensuring product experience and brand experience are unified and that accessibility is embedded in quality rather than treated as a compliance task.
Elevate design culture by preparing thoroughly for critiques, giving and receiving sharp feedback, and sharing workflows, AI prompts, and patterns to raise the craft of the entire design organization.
Use AI strategically across exploration, prototyping, and iteration to accelerate progress while maintaining rigor and avoiding sloppiness in outcomes.
Maintain a system-minded perspective by contributing to design system decisions and recognizing that system decisions are product decisions within the context of Bankrate and Red Ventures.
Balance independence and collaboration by owning a product end-to-end while actively coordinating with engineers, PMs, and stakeholders to align on goals and tradeoffs.
Adapt communication and artifacts to the audience, translating research insights and technical constraints into clear design narratives that enable faster, shared understanding.
Champion continuous learning by documenting and disseminating tools, AI workflows, and discovered patterns so that your growth compounds across the team.
Requirements
Bring a product thinker mindset where your portfolio demonstrates shaping design decisions through discovery, clearly distinguishing findings from opinions and using both appropriately to drive outcomes.
Show high and consistent craft across diverse problem types, holding yourself to a detailed, intentional standard while treating accessibility as integral to craft rather than an afterthought.
Be technically comfortable enough to hold real conversations with engineers, with demonstrated experience using front-end tools, agentic coding environments, GitHub, and component-based thinking to assess buildability.
Act clearly, proactively, and collaboratively by surfacing problems early, proposing paths forward, communicating design decisions effectively, and receiving feedback without becoming attached to your work.
Operate comfortably within Eastern Standard Time hours and hybrid expectations, supporting remote or in-office collaboration with colleagues in New York, NC, or other locations as needed.
Meet the eligibility criteria for employment in the United States and comply with Red Ventures and Bankrate policies and standards.
Nice to have
A strong portfolio that clearly shows the evolution of thinking, including research insights, decision rationales, and the impact of shipped outcomes on the Bankrate website.
Experience working in fast-moving product squads where you have worn multiple hats and contributed to design systems, code components, and product decisions.
Familiarity with AI-assisted workflows for research, prototyping, and iteration, used responsibly to enhance quality and speed.
