Director of Engineering, Reporting Product

About the role

You will lead the engineering team responsible for the Reporting product, which is the flagship interface where Rad AI's AI meets clinical reality for radiologists. You will own the technical vision and execution strategy for this critical product line, ensuring that every release strengthens the trust radiologists place in our AI. You will partner closely with Product, Design, and Clinical teams to turn complex diagnostic workflows into intuitive, powerful software experiences. You will set the engineering standards that define how our Reporting platform scales, performs, and remains reliable under real-world conditions. You will coach and grow engineering managers to build resilient, aligned teams capable of delivering exceptional outcomes. You will be a hands-on leader who contributes to architecture while elevating the entire team through mentorship and clarity. You will ensure that the Reporting product consistently reflects the quality and reliability our customers depend on in their most critical workflows.

What you'll do

• Build and lead a high-performing team of engineers and engineering managers, hiring exceptional talent and developing individuals into their best professional selves.
• Own the end-to-end technical architecture of the Rad AI Reporting product, making strategic decisions that balance scalability, reliability, and long-term maintainability.
• Partner deeply with Product, Design, and Clinical stakeholders to translate complex diagnostic and workflow requirements into clear, impactful engineering solutions.
• Define and enforce high standards for code quality, system design, and engineering practices while maintaining a bias for shipping valuable solutions in healthcare.
• Serve as the primary technical voice for the Reporting product in company-wide engineering discussions and cross-functional leadership forums.
• Drive a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning, ensuring that the team's practices evolve alongside the complexity of our AI and product demands.
• Represent the Reporting organization in hiring, roadmap prioritization, and long-term planning to align engineering efforts with product and business goals.
• Mentor engineering managers to build strong, cohesive teams that communicate effectively and execute with clarity and accountability.
• Collaborate with clinical and operations teams to ensure that software releases meet the needs of real-world clinical environments and regulatory expectations.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and architectural approaches, guiding the team in adopting tools and patterns that improve robustness and developer experience.
• Ensure that the Reporting product delivers a consistently excellent user experience for radiologists, supporting trust and adoption of AI in clinical workflows.
• Own key technical metrics and operational health indicators for the Reporting product, using data to drive improvements and inform trade-offs.
• Work cross-functionally to break down complex problems into well-scoped initiatives that can be delivered iteratively without compromising quality.
• Champion accessibility, usability, and documentation so that the product remains understandable and maintainable over time.

Requirements

• You have 10+ years of software engineering experience and at least 5 years leading engineering teams.
• You have deep experience building and operating software in a production environment, with a strong understanding of reliability, scalability, and performance.
• You are comfortable making technical trade-offs in environments where speed, safety, and regulatory considerations must coexist.
• You have worked with data-intensive applications and understand the challenges of handling large datasets, real-world data quality issues, and evolving data schemas.
• You have experience collaborating with clinical, product, and design teams in a healthcare or medical imaging context.
• You understand the importance of maintainable software and invest in tools, tests, and infrastructure that reduce long-term risk.
• You communicate clearly and persuasively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including executives, clinicians, and engineers.
• You are based in or willing to relocate to the San Francisco Bay Area and comply with all applicable employment eligibility requirements.

Nice to have

• Experience in healthcare, medical imaging, or radiology software.
• Familiarity with AI/ML workflows and how generative AI is integrated into clinical products.
• Background in regulated environments and considerations around compliance and security.
