Join Radai as a Staff Software Engineer dedicated to developing and enhancing reporting integrations within the healthcare technology space. In this role, you will focus on building scalable, reliable, and standards-based data exchange solutions that connect Rad AI's reporting platform with a variety of clinical systems such as PACS, EHRs, and worklists. Your contributions will directly impact the platform's ability to seamlessly integrate into diverse radiology environments, ensuring smooth workflows and high-quality data sharing. You will define the technical architecture for integration solutions, promote best practices, and work closely with internal teams, customers, and external vendors to deliver , reusable, and extensible integration components.

What you'll do

• Design, develop, and implement real-time data synchronization integrations, including FHIRcast and file-based methods (XML/JSON) for PACS, worklists, and electronic health records (EHRs).
• Architect and build a flexible, modular integration platform that enables rapid development of new integrations using reusable components and frameworks.
• Collaborate with Product teams to evaluate the technical feasibility and potential impact of new features involving third-party systems and data sources.
• Expand the integration platform to support new categories of partners, such as non-clinical analytics tools, clinical decision support (CDI) systems, and AI-powered clinical tools.
• Work directly with customers, vendors, and internal teams to understand clinical workflows, identify edge cases, and troubleshoot integration issues during deployment and in production environments.
• Engage with hospital IT, security, and identity management teams to establish connectivity for cloud-based integrations, including managing firewall access, certificates, and SSO configurations.
• Transform customer-specific, one-off integrations into standardized, reusable connectors that can be deployed across multiple clients, reducing setup time and increasing reliability.
• Implement comprehensive logging, tracing, and end-to-end testing strategies to ensure high reliability, observability, and maintainability of integrations.
• Troubleshoot and resolve integration issues across various systems, utilizing logs, traces, and system knowledge to diagnose problems quickly and effectively.
• Document technical details about vendor systems, workflow scenarios, and integration procedures, creating clear and detailed technical documentation.
• Mentor and guide other engineers working on integration projects, sharing best practices and technical knowledge to elevate the team's overall expertise.
• Stay current with industry standards and emerging trends in healthcare data exchange, advocating for modern, standards-based approaches over legacy methods.

Requirements

• Strong backend development skills with experience in full-stack engineering, with a particular interest in healthcare integrations.
• Proficiency in parts of the stack such as TypeScript, Node.js, React, and Electron, with a willingness to learn and work across other areas as needed.
• Experience managing and deploying production services in a cloud environment, ensuring high availability and scalability.
• Practical experience working with healthcare data-sharing standards such as FHIRcast, SMART on FHIR, FHIR, HL7, or DICOM.
• Demonstrated success in deploying and maintaining production integrations with clinical systems like PACS, EHRs, or worklists.
• Ability to design integrations as reusable, extensible frameworks rather than isolated point solutions, promoting code reuse and maintainability.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose complex integration issues using logs, traces, and system knowledge.
• Excellent communication skills, capable of leading technical discussions with customers, vendors, and internal teams.
• Ability to understand and translate clinical workflows into technical solutions, ensuring integrations meet real-world needs.
• Experience working with hospital IT teams, security protocols, and identity management systems, including handling firewalls, certificates, and SSO configurations.

Nice to have

• Direct experience working in radiology environments or with radiology-specific systems.
• Hands-on experience with PACS, radiology worklists, or Epic EHR systems.
• Familiarity with HL7 standards and DICOM protocols used in medical imaging and clinical data exchange.
• Experience working with legacy desktop integration methods in older clinical systems, and advocating for modern, standards-based approaches.
• Participation in IHE Connectathons or experience implementing IHE profiles such as IRA (Integrated Reporting Applications) or SWF (Scheduled Workflow).
• Knowledge of clinical workflows and the ability to translate them into technical specifications for integration.
