About the role
QuantWare is on the lookout for an Advanced Packaging Engineer who will play a pivotal role in the research and development of chiplet and 3D architecture systems tailored for scalable quantum processors. This position entails a hands-on approach to designing, fabricating, prototyping, assembling, and testing essential components that will form the backbone of next-generation quantum computing technology. You will be instrumental in guiding the evolution of chip layers from their initial conceptual stages through to their final implementation, making significant contributions to the advancement of our quantum hardware capabilities.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Lead the research and development process from conceptualization to manufacturable solutions, actively participating in the innovation of new packaging and assembly methodologies.
- Mentor and guide the team in the development of advanced packaging strategies specifically for quantum hardware applications.
- Collaborate with external partners and suppliers, managing outsourced tasks and incorporating external technologies into our processes.
- Strategically manage resources and timelines, ensuring a balanced workload while coordinating efforts across various functions to align with the company's objectives.
- Foster a culture of innovation and accountability within a dynamic scale-up environment, ensuring high technical standards are maintained.
- Conduct thorough testing and validation of packaging designs to ensure reliability and performance in quantum computing applications.
- Document and present research findings and project updates to stakeholders, ensuring clear communication of complex technical challenges.
- Stay abreast of industry trends and advancements in semiconductor packaging and quantum technology to inform ongoing development efforts.
Requirements
- A Master's degree or higher in physics, electronics, materials science, or a closely related field.
- A minimum of 4 years of experience in hardware research and development, with a strong focus on semiconductor packaging.
- Proven ability to tackle and resolve intricate technical problems effectively.
- A solid history of leading R&D projects in relevant sectors, demonstrating successful outcomes.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, particularly in articulating complex development issues and project statuses.
- Experience in establishing scalable processes within a startup or scale-up environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills for engaging effectively with both engineering teams and business stakeholders.
- Competence in management practices, including coaching, talent development, and conflict management.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with semiconductor processing techniques, chip integration methods, flip-chip technology, or advanced packaging solutions.
- Understanding of packaging simulation tools, as well as knowledge of thermal management, mechanical stress considerations, and reliability assessments in complex hardware systems.
- Experience in working within interdisciplinary teams to drive innovative solutions in hardware development.
