About the role

Proto Labs is actively searching for a Press Brake Set up Specialist to join their manufacturing team in Nashua, New Hampshire. In this position, you will be responsible for the complete setup and operational oversight of press brake machinery to meet specific customer demands. The role requires a high degree of self-motivation and the ability to function effectively with minimal direct supervision. You will own the quality and efficiency of the bending process from program start to finished, compliant parts. Success in this position means ensuring that every component adheres strictly to engineering specifications and geometric tolerances. Furthermore, you will play a critical role in process optimization, identifying opportunities to reduce waste and improve overall manufacturing flow. The position demands a deep understanding of prototype manufacturing environments where changeovers and precision are constant. You will be a key contributor to the production team's ability to deliver high-mix, low-volume orders reliably and on schedule.

What you'll do

• Configure and set up Amada, Cincinnati, or Bystronics press brake equipment for production runs.
• Program the press brake controls to execute complex bends, utilizing features like step bends, angle bending, and back gauge transfers.
• Analyze and interpret detailed blueprints and geometric tolerances to verify that finished parts meet exact specifications.
• Develop and execute precise flat pattern layouts and establish optimal bending sequences for efficiency and accuracy.
• Perform thorough quality inspections on produced parts, identifying and discarding any defective items to prevent shipment.
• Track and calculate material gains and losses throughout the production process to minimize waste and control costs.
• Provide mentorship and hands-on training to junior operators to elevate the skill level of the entire team.
• Sustain a meticulously organized and clean workspace, proactively identifying opportunities to reduce waste and streamline processes.
• Maintain strict adherence to safety protocols, ensuring a secure working environment around heavy machinery.
• Collaborate with engineering and quality departments to resolve issues and improve part manufacturability.
• Document setup parameters and production notes to ensure traceability and consistency across shifts.
• Optimize machine utilization and minimize downtime through proactive maintenance checks and careful operation.
• Support production scheduling by flexibly managing workload and meeting urgent delivery requirements.
• Demonstrate continuous improvement by evaluating current methods and suggesting practical enhancements to workflow.

Requirements

• Possess a high school diploma or equivalent educational credential as a minimum academic requirement.
• Have professional, hands-on experience with press brakes in a sheet metal manufacturing environment.
• Bring a background in prototype manufacturing or possess equivalent practical education in the field.
• Demonstrate proficiency in the use of SolidWorks and Microsoft Office software applications.
• Exhibit strong mechanical troubleshooting abilities to diagnose and resolve equipment issues independently.
• Have documented experience with American offset tooling and the use of height-adjusting adapters.
• Show competency in the use of precision measuring tools such as calipers, protractors, and height gauges.
• Possess the ability to analyze numerical data and translate technical information clearly to diverse audiences.
• Have the physical capacity to lift up to 70 pounds and perform repetitive physical tasks including standing, walking, and kneeling.
• Be eligible for employment based on U.S. citizenship or specific immigration statuses as dictated by ITAR regulations.

Practical notes

• This role operates on a Monday to Friday schedule from 6am to 2pm.
• Compensation includes a competitive salary and a $2,000 sign-on bonus.
