About the role
You will spearhead discovery research initiatives that directly shape the future pipeline of cardiovascular and metabolic disease programs at ProFound. In this capacity, you own the design and execution of complex mechanistic studies using cutting-edge in vitro and in vivo models to generate robust biological insights. You will act as a scientific leader, driving target validation efforts by integrating proteomic and computational data to prioritize high-value therapeutic candidates. This role requires a deep passion for exploring novel biology and translating intricate biological concepts into actionable drug discovery strategies. You will collaborate extensively with cross-functional teams, ensuring that findings are clearly communicated to leadership and external partners to guide strategic decisions. What you'll do
- Orchestrate discovery research in cardiovascular and metabolic disease by architecting and implementing sophisticated mechanistic studies utilizing state-of-the-art models and technologies.
- Spearhead target validation initiatives informed by proteomic and computational insights, formulating hypotheses and prioritizing targets with demonstrable translational potential.
- Partner with computational biology and proteomics experts to dissect large-scale datasets, transforming complex information into novel biological understanding.
- Architect and supervise in vitro and in vivo disease models to elucidate target biology, drive candidate selection, and facilitate biomarker discovery.
- Contribute strategic direction to the refinement of the company's therapeutic portfolio specifically within the cardiovascular and metabolic disease landscape.
- Synthesize and articulate intricate scientific findings with precision during cross-functional discussions and leadership presentations.
- Champion and guide external academic and industry collaborations to maximize scientific outcomes.
- Employ a highly analytical mindset to troubleshoot experimental challenges and iterate on study design in real-time.
- Mentor junior team members by providing scientific guidance and fostering a collaborative research culture.
- Ensure rigorous data quality and integrity throughout the research lifecycle, maintaining compliance with internal standards.
- Translate high-level project goals into detailed, executable scientific plans that align with timelines and objectives.
- Identify opportunities for innovation by staying at the forefront of techniques and technologies relevant to disease biology.
Requirements
- Hold a Ph.D. in physiology, pharmacology, cell biology, or a closely related discipline; postdoctoral training or substantial industry experience is strongly preferred.
- Possess a minimum of 2 years as a Scientist or 5 years as a Senior Scientist with relevant postdoctoral or industry experience.
- Demonstrate extensive experience working within a biotechnology or pharmaceutical setting, specifically with cellular assays and in vitro pharmacology.
- Show advanced hands-on proficiency in core cellular and molecular biology techniques, including but not limited to CRISPR, ELISA, qPCR, Western blotting, and RNAseq, as well as assay development.
- Maintain a strong track record of scientific contributions evidenced by publications, patents, and conference presentations.
- Exhibit exceptional communication, collaboration, and organizational skills necessary to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented setting.
- Demonstrate meticulous attention to detail and robust problem-solving abilities to manage complex experimental workflows.
- Display the capacity to work effectively both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team to drive projects forward.
- Commit to upholding the highest standards of data integrity and scientific rigor in all research activities.
- Navigate ambiguity and manage multiple competing priorities in a dynamic research environment.
- Adhere to all company standard operating procedures and regulatory guidelines relevant to biological research.

- Possess a ProFound understanding of disease mechanisms and translational models in one or more areas: obesity, type 2 diabetes, atherosclerosis, heart failure, MASH, lipid metabolism or vascular disease.
- Exhibit the ability to seamlessly integrate multi-omic or genetic data into experimental design and hypothesis generation.
- Have familiarity with established target identification and validation processes within the pharmaceutical industry.
