Privatelabelstaff is seeking a Database Administrator to join their team on a contract basis in Tallahassee, Florida. The Database Administrator will be responsible for maintaining, optimizing, and securing the organization's database systems to ensure reliable data access and integrity across all business units. This role involves working closely with internal stakeholders to support data-driven decision-making and operational efficiency throughout the company. The Database Administrator will manage database environments, enforce data governance policies, and contribute to the overall stability and scalability of the company's data infrastructure.

What you'll do
Install, configure, and maintain database servers to meet organizational performance and availability standards across production and staging environments.
Monitor database systems for performance issues, bottlenecks, and potential failures on a regular basis to prevent service disruptions.
Perform routine backups and implement recovery procedures to protect critical business data and ensure continuity in all scenarios.
Optimize database queries and indexing strategies to improve application response times, reduce latency, and increase overall throughput.
Manage user access controls, permissions, and security protocols across all database environments to safeguard sensitive information.
Collaborate with software developers and engineering teams to support application database integration needs and schema design reviews.
Document database configurations, procedures, and architectural decisions for future reference, auditing, and team knowledge sharing purposes.
Troubleshoot and resolve database errors, outages, and data inconsistencies in a timely manner to minimize business impact.
Plan and execute database migrations, upgrades, and patches with minimal disruption to ongoing operations and end users.
Coordinate with IT security teams to apply patches, updates, and vulnerability assessments on a regular and scheduled basis.
Review and analyze database logs and audit trails to identify trends, anomalies, and potential security concerns.
Participate in capacity planning exercises to ensure database resources meet growing data storage and performance demands.
Requirements
Demonstrated experience managing relational database systems in a professional or enterprise environment over a sustained period.
Strong understanding of database design principles, normalization, and data modeling concepts applied to real world systems.
Proficiency in writing complex SQL queries, stored procedures, triggers, and database functions for application support.
Ability to diagnose and resolve performance degradation, blocking, and locking issues in multi user database environments.
Solid knowledge of backup and disaster recovery strategies for mission critical data systems and business continuity.
Familiarity with database security best practices including authentication, authorization, role based access, and auditing procedures.
Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and problem solving.
Strong written and verbal communication skills for coordinating with cross functional technical teams and business stakeholders.
Experience with database replication, clustering, or high availability configurations to support continuous service delivery.
Knowledge of regulatory standards and compliance frameworks relevant to data storage, retention, and privacy protection.
Nice to have
Experience with database monitoring tools and alerting systems for proactive issue detection and capacity planning.
Knowledge of scripting languages such as Python or Bash for automating routine administrative tasks and reporting.
Exposure to cloud based database services and virtualization platforms in a production or staging setting.

Skills & tools
Proficiency in SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or comparable relational database management systems used in enterprise settings.

Familiarity with performance tuning tools and query execution plan analysis utilities for identifying slow running operations.
Working knowledge of operating systems including Linux and Windows Server environments for database platform administration.
