Database Administrator - SQL Server & Oracle

Bamboohr is looking for a Database Administrator with strong command of SQL Server and Oracle database platforms. This contract role is situated in Tallahassee, Florida and centers on the ongoing management and optimization of relational database systems. The position is responsible for safeguarding data integrity, improving query performance, and ensuring dependable access to information across the organization. The administrator will coordinate with technical teams to keep database infrastructure operating reliably and efficiently. Additional duties include supporting database upgrades, participating in incident response, and contributing to the continuous improvement of data management practices.

What you'll do

1. Administer and maintain SQL Server and Oracle databases to ensure high availability and consistent performance across all environments.

2. Monitor database systems continuously, identify performance bottlenecks, and apply tuning techniques to improve query response times.

3. Execute regular backup procedures, test recovery processes, and maintain disaster recovery plans for critical data protection.

4. Configure and manage user authentication, role-based access controls, and security policies across database instances.

5. Diagnose and resolve database errors, connection failures, locking conflicts, and other operational issues in production systems.

6. Partner with software developers to refine database queries, table structures, and indexing strategies for better efficiency.

7. Install cumulative updates, service packs, and version upgrades following established change management and IT governance procedures.

1. Create and maintain comprehensive documentation covering database configurations, standard operating procedures, and architectural modifications.

9. Perform capacity planning exercises and project future storage, memory, and processing requirements as data volumes expand.

10. Assist with database migration efforts between versions or platforms when organizational needs and timelines require such transitions.

1. Review and optimize database storage structures, including tablespaces, filegroups, and segment management for efficient resource use.

12. Participate in on-call rotation to provide after-hours support for critical database outages and urgent production issues.

Requirements

1. Demonstrated experience managing SQL Server and Oracle databases in a production or enterprise environment.

2. Thorough understanding of relational database theory, normalization, indexing methods, and query execution plans.

3. Hands-on knowledge of backup and restore procedures along with high-availability and failover configurations.

4. Proven ability to analyze and fix database performance problems including blocking and deadlock scenarios.

5. Working knowledge of database security principles such as encryption, auditing, and user privilege management.

6. Clear written and verbal communication skills for interacting with both technical and business stakeholders.

7. Familiarity with database monitoring dashboards, alerting systems, and performance diagnostic utilities.

8. A self-motivated approach to work with the capacity to handle multiple priorities under contract terms.

9. Experience with database auditing, compliance reporting, and regulatory requirements relevant to data governance.

10. Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related technical field or equivalent practical experience.
