Staff Data Analyst
Job description
About the role
At Preply, we are looking for a Staff Data Analyst who will own the data strategy for a critical product domain such as Growth, Retention, or Marketplace, and act as the senior analytical authority in that space. You will partner with Directors and VPs across Business, Operations, Product, and Engineering to shape long-term strategy, influence investment decisions, and ensure our roadmap is grounded in rigorous, scalable measurement frameworks. The role involves building and owning the analytical framework that leadership uses to evaluate B2B trade-offs and defining the long-term measurement framework that identifies structural growth levers beyond incremental wins. You will lead retention and cohort analyses that answer specific open questions from B2B leadership, turning findings into concrete pricing, product, or lifecycle recommendations.
You will own impact modeling and scenario analysis for major B2B product initiatives, feeding directly into quarterly and annual planning through forecasting, trade-off analysis, and risk assessment. This includes owning metric definitions and governance for B2B, including resolving conflicting definitions across teams and maintaining a single source of truth that others are expected to use. You will design the experimentation and analytics agenda, determining what gets tested, how success is measured, and running the analysis that determines whether initiatives actually moved the needle. Through this work, you will partner with Directors and VPs across product, ops, and engineering to shape B2B strategy, mentor senior analysts to raise the analytical bar, and occasionally extend that work beyond B2B when company-level questions require it.
Key facts
- Build and own the analytical framework leadership uses to evaluate B2B trade-offs, and define the long-term measurement framework that identifies structural growth levers, not just incremental wins.
- Lead retention and cohort analyses that answer specific open questions from B2B leadership, turning findings into concrete pricing, product, or lifecycle recommendations.
- Own impact modeling and scenario analysis for major B2B product initiatives, feeding directly into quarterly and annual planning through forecasting, trade-off analysis, and risk assessment.
- Own metric definitions and governance for B2B, including resolving conflicting definitions across teams and maintaining a single source of truth others are expected to use.
- Design the experimentation and analytics agenda: what gets tested, how success is measured, and run the analysis that determines whether initiatives actually moved the needle.
- Partner with Directors and VPs across product, ops, and engineering to shape B2B strategy, mentor senior analysts to raise the analytical bar, and occasionally extend that work beyond B2B when company-level questions require it.
- Translate complex analytical outcomes into clear narratives and decision-ready recommendations for executive stakeholders.
- Ensure analytical rigor, reproducibility, and scalability of data pipelines and models used for critical B2B decisions.
- Identify and track leading and lagging indicators to surface early signals of product or marketplace performance shifts.
- Champion data literacy across B2B stakeholders by enabling self-serve insights while maintaining methodological integrity.
- Collaborate closely with data engineers and product managers to prioritize analytical infrastructure that unlocks faster, more reliable insights.
- Own the end-to-end analytical lifecycle from problem framing, data exploration, modeling, validation, and insight communication.
- Maintain a deep understanding of subscription and marketplace economics, building LTV and cohort models from scratch rather than relying on prebuilt templates.
- Act as the primary analytical voice for B2B in cross-functional discussions, balancing strategic vision with empirical evidence.
- You can point to one or more specific decisions (a pricing change, a resourcing call, a roadmap cut) that happened because of your analysis, and one where your recommendation was rejected and you can explain why, in hindsight, that was right or wrong.
- You've owned a metric or strategic framework other teams were required to use, and resolved a conflict between two teams who each wanted a different definition to win.
- You understand subscription or marketplace economics well enough to build an LTV or cohort model from scratch, not just interpret one someone else built.
- Fluent, independent SQL and Python. You are the person other analysts send their code to for review, not the person waiting on review.
- You've said no to a stakeholder's request because it wasn't the right question, and you've been right to.
- You've built a forecast or scenario model that a VP used to defend a bet to their own leadership.
- You are comfortable working in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment where priorities can shift quickly.
- You communicate clearly and persuasively both in writing and verbally, with strong attention to detail and logical structuring of problems.
- You take ownership of end-to-end analytical projects and see them through from initial scoping to execution and follow-up.
- You are comfortable mentoring less experienced analysts and elevating the analytical standards across the team.
- Background in B2B SaaS, enterprise or account-based business models.
- Experience building or scaling an analytics function (hiring, tooling, process, KPI frameworks...).
- Experience with Tableau, Looker, or Power BI.
- Master's or PhD in a quantitative field.
