Technical Lead, Patient Experience
Job description
Technical Lead, Patient Experience at Pomelo Care.
About the role
You will serve as the technical lead for how patients interact with Pomelo from the moment they enroll through their entire care journey. Your primary focus will be ensuring that patient engagement is deeply integrated into every layer of the product experience. You own the responsibility of shaping the mobile and web experiences that tens of thousands of patients rely on daily. The success of this role is measured by the trust patients place in our platform and their sustained engagement with our care tools. You will work closely with clinical experts to ensure that the patient journey is both medically sound and emotionally resonant. This position is critical for defining the technical roadmap that directly impacts health outcomes.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Architect and lead the technical strategy for patient-facing mobile applications, defining the long-term vision that shapes how users navigate their care.
- Rapidly prototype and deploy new features using AI-assisted workflows, allowing for swift experimentation and validation of high-impact engagement ideas.
- Own the critical first-month patient journey, implementing systems that support retention and adherence during the most vulnerable weeks of care.
- Translate complex clinical requirements into intuitive user flows, ensuring that patients feel supported rather than overwhelmed by medical complexity.
- Partner directly with product managers and designers to turn qualitative patient feedback into concrete, testable product improvements.
- Mentor engineering staff, fostering a culture of code quality, empathy for the user, and continuous learning within the patient experience team.
- Establish and maintain technical standards that ensure scalability, security, and performance across all patient touchpoints.
- Analyze behavioral data to identify friction points and iterate on the user experience to maximize meaningful engagement without clinical overload.
- Act as the primary technical advocate for the patient, balancing business objectives with the ethical responsibility of care delivery.
- Explore and implement emerging technologies, particularly in the space of LLM-driven agents, to amplify the impact of each engineering hour.
- Collaborate with analytics teams to set up experiments that measure the true impact of patient experience changes on real-world outcomes.
- Drive the integration between clinical systems and consumer-grade interfaces to maintain a seamless experience for users.
- Lead cross-functional sprint planning sessions that prioritize patient needs alongside engineering feasibility and technical debt reduction.
- Define the roadmap for mobile and web platforms, ensuring alignment with the broader company mission of improving maternal and infant health.
Requirements
- You have deep experience building and shipping consumer or patient-facing products, demonstrating a track record of successful mobile and web launches.
- You have served as a technical lead on previous teams, setting architecture direction and actively mentoring engineers at various career levels.

- You are comfortable working across the full stack, from low-level native modules to high-level product logic in a fast-moving environment.
- You stay current with industry trends, particularly around large language models and AI coding agents, and you explore ways to leverage them for engineering efficiency.
- You enjoy collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, including product, design, and clinical stakeholders, to solve complex problems.
- You have a proven history of building engagement, retention, and onboarding flows that significantly improve long-term user stickiness.
- You have prior professional experience in healthcare, wellness, or other high-trust consumer domains where privacy and empathy are paramount.
- You are located in the continental United States and able to work in a fully remote capacity with asynchronous communication norms.
- You are willing to commit to a schedule that aligns with overlapping business hours to support global collaboration.
Nice to have
- Experience with React Native or other cross-platform mobile frameworks that allow for rapid iteration and code reuse.
- A background in building products specifically within healthcare, wellness, or environments that require high levels of trust.
- Demonstrated success in optimizing engagement, retention, and onboarding metrics through iterative product experiments.
- Prior work involving AI/ML or the development of agent-based systems that automate parts of the user journey.
