Medical Director, Obstetrics

About the role

You will own the medical oversight of perinatal care for a high volume population primarily covered by Medicaid, ensuring that clinical decisions are grounded in evidence-based practice. This role requires you to act as a collaborative leader, guiding an interdisciplinary team of advanced practice providers, nurses, dietitians, lactation consultants, and mental health professionals. You will be responsible for shaping holistic, individualized care plans that address the full spectrum of patient needs from pregnancy through the postpartum period. A core part of this position is driving continuous quality improvement by analyzing population health metrics and closing gaps in care. You will also serve as a key representative of Pomelo's clinical brand, both internally with leadership and externally with partners. The position demands comfort with ambiguity and a proactive approach to evolving protocols in a fast-paced, data-driven environment. You will leverage multiple technology platforms to coordinate care and provide timely virtual support to a diverse patient population. Ultimately, your work will directly influence measurable improvements in maternal and infant health outcomes across the system.

What you'll do

• Be clinically responsible for an assigned population of patients from the perspective of individual patient care and population health metrics.
• Provide collaborative physician supervision and consultation for an experienced team of APPs, RNs, registered dietitians, lactation consultants, and mental health specialists.
• Lead multi-disciplinary team-based care coordination meetings and work with in house clinical specialties (nursing, NPs, midwifery/group care, dietary/nutrition, lactation, mental health) to develop holistic individualized care plans.
• Help drive our population health programs toward healthier outcomes by partnering closely with Operations leads to identify gaps and improvement opportunities, promoting our accountability culture to move the needle forward.
• Partner closely with our leadership team to identify and implement interventions to address cross-disciplinary or practice performance improvement needs (e.g., updates to protocols, tech-enabled tools, trainings, policies, etc).
• Facilitate and lead cross-disciplinary review sessions for episodic events and perform periodic peer review for medical providers, identifying opportunities for team education and training.
• Take regular virtual call to support our 24/7 availability to patients.
• Represent Pomelo's care internally and externally.

Requirements

• 5+ years practicing as an attending physician.
• Experience leading collaborative, team-based care.
• A passion to improve clinical outcomes coupled with exceptional organization and attention to detail.
• A growth mindset with the ability to approach process change and ambiguous situations with enthusiasm, creativity, and accountability.
• Facility using multiple tech platforms, with an eagerness for advising about platform improvements and adapting to new systems.
• Eager to thrive in a fast-paced, metric-driven environment.
• Phenomenal interpersonal and communication skills.
• Medical degree from an accredited US medical school.
• Successful completion of an accredited US residency program in Obstetrics/Gynecology.
• Active, unrestricted license to practice in the US and willingness to obtain licenses in all US states.
• Active, certification with American Board of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Practical notes

This role is full-time and remote within the continental United States. You will be expected to take regular virtual calls to support 24/7 patient availability. Travel is not required for this position. Candidates must be willing to obtain and maintain medical licensure in all US states as needed.
