Software Engineer, Backend
Job description
About the role
Software Engineer, Backend (New Grad)
We are seeking a new graduate to join our Engineering Team as a Software Engineer, Backend. The focus of this role is the development of backend systems that directly power gameplay. You will be responsible for architecting the core services that connect server-side logic with the player experience. In a live environment serving forty million monthly active users, you will tackle unique engineering obstacles. Your contributions will ensure that game features scale reliably and function correctly across our diverse portfolio of games.
This position requires a technology-agnostic mindset. You will work closely with product teams to translate design documents into robust server architecture. Your daily tasks will involve building the data pathways and services that maintain session consistency. You will operate in a setting with varied game types and a large, active community. The goal is to shape how rules execute and how outcomes are rendered to a massive audience.
This is a full-time position located in our standard work environment. The expected level of professional engagement is full-time commitment. We are looking for candidates who bring 3 to 5 years of relevant experience since their studies. The annual compensation for this role ranges from 290,000 to 350,000.
Key Responsibilities
Your daily work will center on designing and maintaining the systems that drive our games. You will build ingestion layers capable of collecting and validating high-volume event streams from live titles. A core part of the job involves constructing domain models and APIs. These tools translate gameplay rules into reliable and predictable server behavior.
You will regularly review architectural diagrams and data flows. This ensures that the implementation stays aligned with product intentions and business goals. You will be responsible for shipping new services and features behind feature flags. This work must be done while monitoring stability indicators and performance metrics.
Collaboration is a key part of the role. You will coordinate with data teams to tune queries and storage choices. This optimization targets the specific needs of active sessions and real-time interactions. You will also partner with analytics groups. Together, you will define event contracts and standard naming conventions for tracking player behavior.
Performance under pressure is a critical skill. You will optimize resource usage and response times during conditions of high concurrent load. Documentation is also essential. You will create clear documentation for interfaces and failure modes. This ensures that other engineers can understand, maintain, and extend the services you build.
Requirements
To be considered for this role, you must hold a degree or equivalent practical background. Your background should be in computer science or a related technical field. You must be able to write server code using common languages and standard libraries. This must be done at a production level and in live settings.
A strong understanding of data structures and algorithms is required. You must understand these concepts well enough to handle large scale scenarios and complex problems. You should have hands-on experience managing version control, testing suites, and deployment pipelines. This includes writing tests and debugging production issues.
You must be comfortable working with relational databases, caching layers, and message brokers. These technologies form the backbone of our backend infrastructure. Clear communication skills are mandatory. You must be able to communicate clearly in English during design discussions and code reviews.
Nice to Have
Candidates with experience in game server frameworks will have an advantage. Specific experience with real time multiplayer protocols is also considered a plus. This includes knowledge of synchronization techniques and state management for interactive experiences.
Skills & Tools
The daily work relies on a specific set of technologies. You will need proficiency in programming languages relevant to backend development. You must have deep knowledge of database systems and how to model data. Experience with version control is non-negotiable. You will also use monitoring tools to track the health and performance of our services.
Practical Notes
Before applying, please Ensure that your documents and portfolio align with the requirements listed here. This role is a new graduate position designed to grow with our company. You will grow alongside our games and our team.
