Software Engineer, Backend
Job description
About the role
We are searching for a Software Engineer, Backend to join our Engineering Team. The focus of this role is backend development that directly drives gameplay. You will architect the core systems responsible for bringing game features to life. This involves connecting server-side logic with the player experience. Our platform serves a community of 40 million monthly active users. In this environment, you will solve unique engineering challenges. You will build scalable game logic by adopting a technology-agnostic approach. Your growth will be tied to the growth of our team and our games. This position operates as a full-time, onsite role. The compensation package for this position ranges from 450,000 to 550,000 RON on an annual basis.
What you'll do
- Design intake pipelines for game events and ensure these pipelines validate events before they enter core services.
- Construct scalable modules using technology-agnostic patterns to support varied gameplay requirements and translate architectural diagrams into concrete server implementations.
- Own backend components by turning game concepts into running services that connect logic to player actions while maintaining stability for large communities.
- Coordinate with partner teams to ensure backend components integrate smoothly and maintain operational health through monitoring and incident response procedures.
- Ship reliable updates by running tests in staging environments and managing logging setups to uphold service continuity.
- Build server structures that power interactive worlds for millions of players and design systems that bring game features to life through server-side logic.
- Review architectural diagrams carefully and align data models with live game features and player expectations to support millions of users.
- Forge connections with cross-functional teams to validate data flows and ensure that implemented services meet real-time gameplay demands.
- Implement technology-agnostic solutions that allow the stack to evolve without dependency on specific frameworks or languages.
- Document decisions and constraints thoroughly so future engineers can understand the rationale behind architectural choices and system behavior.
- Optimize query performance under load by analyzing database interactions and ensuring efficient data storage and retrieval strategies.
- Adapt code to function correctly across different runtime environments, demonstrating strong fundamentals and adaptability in diverse technical contexts.
- Translate complex gameplay requirements into robust backend services that handle high concurrency and deliver consistent player experiences.
- Refine system behavior through iterative improvements based on operational metrics and feedback from live game environments.
Requirements
Three years of professional experience in server-oriented development is mandatory for this role. Hands-on work with HTTP services is required on a daily basis. You must have experience with common data exchange formats such as JSON and XML. Understanding of databases is necessary to know how they store information and handle complex queries. Query performance under load is a key consideration that you must address in your designs. You must write code that functions correctly across different runtime environments, which demands adaptability and a strong grasp of fundamentals. No prior experience with niche tools is required, and you should not rely on specific framework expertise. A technology-agnostic mindset is the primary tool you will use to succeed in this position. There are no specific "Nice to have" qualifications listed, and the focus remains strictly on core engineering competencies. The role does not enumerate additional skills as supplementary, and you are expected to adapt to our stack without requiring niche knowledge. Learning agility is valued more highly than prior specific tool familiarity, and the role consistently emphasizes architectural thinking over tool dependency.
