About the role
We are seeking a dedicated legal professional to join Paytm as a Legal Litigation/ LEA specialist based in Bangalore, Karnataka. This on-site role involves managing interactions with law enforcement agencies in the southern region and providing essential legal support to the company's business and compliance teams. The individual will be responsible for coordinating with police units and LEAs, drafting and responding to notices, and ensuring timely handling of investigations and legal proceedings. The role demands a proactive and strategic approach to managing legal risks associated with law enforcement interactions, with a focus on supporting the fintech business's operational integrity and compliance. The candidate will work closely with regional and national teams, providing legal advice, drafting pleadings, and representing the company in courts as an authorized representative when required. Key facts
What you'll do
- Coordinate with police units and law enforcement agencies in the southern region regarding ongoing investigations, notices, and legal procedures.
- Draft, prepare, and furnish detailed replies to notices received under sections 94 & 106 of the BNSS, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and company policies.
- Facilitate cooperation with police authorities and LEAs during investigations, providing necessary legal support and documentation.
- Work closely with business teams to respond to requests and notices from law enforcement agencies, ensuring timely and accurate communication.
- Support the filing of criminal complaints and monitor the progression of cases at police stations, magisterial courts, and sessions courts.
- Provide day-to-day legal advice on operational matters impacting the business, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Draft responses to legal notices, vet pleadings, and appear in courts as an authorized representative of the company, representing its legal interests effectively.
- Maintain ongoing communication with law enforcement agencies to facilitate investigations and legal proceedings, ensuring all responses are prompt and compliant.
- Collaborate with regional and national legal teams to ensure consistency in handling law enforcement interactions and investigations.
- Uphold strict confidentiality and ethical standards when dealing with sensitive and non-public information related to investigations and legal matters.
- Resolve complex legal issues within prescribed TATs, providing strategic legal guidance and objective risk assessments.
- Assist in developing legal strategies to mitigate risks associated with law enforcement interactions, including drafting policies and procedures.
- Support the company's legal compliance efforts by ensuring adherence to statutory and regulatory requirements relevant to law enforcement investigations.
- Keep abreast of updates in criminal, BNSS, civil procedural laws, IPC, PMLA, and other relevant statutory/regulatory laws governing the fintech sector.
- Work under pressure to handle sensitive matters with tact, professionalism, and a proactive attitude, especially when dealing with urgent investigations or legal notices.
- Coordinate with managers and teams across different geographical locations to ensure seamless legal support and communication.
- Maintain detailed records of all interactions, notices, responses, and legal proceedings for audit and compliance purposes.
- Participate in internal legal reviews and contribute to the continuous improvement of legal processes related to law enforcement interactions.
- Be prepared to work long or odd hours as the role demands swift and prompt responses to unforeseen developments that could impact the business.
- Demonstrate sound judgment and decision-making skills, especially in ambiguous or high-pressure situations involving law enforcement agencies.
Requirements
- Law degree from a recognized university.
- 5-9 years of practical experience in a legal role involving law enforcement interactions, investigations, and litigation.
- Strong knowledge of criminal law, BNSS, civil procedural laws, IPC, PMLA, and other statutory/regulatory laws relevant to fintech.
- Demonstrated ability to draft legal responses, vet pleadings, and represent a company in court proceedings.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, Hindi, and vernacular languages.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with multiple teams across different locations, translating complex legal concepts into clear business terms.
- High level of integrity, confidentiality, and adherence to ethical standards in handling sensitive information.
- Ability to coordinate effectively with law enforcement agencies, police units, and internal teams.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple cases and legal matters simultaneously.
- Diligent, proactive, and enthusiastic approach to work, with the capacity to handle long or irregular hours when necessary.
- Sound judgment and decision-making skills, especially in ambiguous or high-pressure situations.
- Ability to resolve sensitive legal matters within prescribed TATs, providing independent and objective legal risk assessments.
