About the role
The Benchmarking Specialist II serves as a key contributor within the PayScale Benchmarking Team, owning the end-to-end execution of complex client benchmarking projects from initial consultation through final delivery. This role requires deep expertise in applying PayScale's proprietary crowd and company sourced data alongside third party compensation surveys to solve intricate compensation puzzles for clients. The hire will act as a strategic partner to clients, facilitating critical kick-off calls, match review sessions, and final publishing consultations to ensure alignment with unique business needs. They will independently manage multiple high-stakes pricing initiatives simultaneously, balancing competing deadlines while upholding the highest standards of accuracy and quality. This position involves close collaboration with U.S.-based teams to ensure consistency in job pricing and market positioning across global client portfolios. The specialist will also be responsible for assigning work to Benchmarking Specialists I, providing oversight, and conducting rigorous quality assurance checks on processed jobs. Ultimately, this role drives client confidence by delivering transparent, defensible, and actionable compensation intelligence that turns pay data into a catalyst for growth.

What you'll do
- Facilitate client kick-off, test batch, match review, and final publishing calls while applying deep benchmarking knowledge to align standard compensation processes with unique client business needs.
- Independently manage and deliver multiple complex pricing projects simultaneously, balancing competing deadlines while maintaining high-quality deliverables and methodological consistency.
- Assign projects to Benchmarking Specialist I team members based on workload assessments and conduct rigorous quality checks on processed jobs to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to client requirements.
- Analyze job descriptions, organizational information, and client-provided data to determine appropriate market matches and compensation values using PayScale's data platforms.
- Evaluate compensable factors such as scope, complexity, responsibility, experience requirements, and organizational context to support transparent and consistent pricing decisions.
- Develop and analyze pay market configurations based on industry, organization size, geography, and other relevant market factors to ensure accurate market positioning.
- Deliver transactional benchmarking requests through Payfactors, MarketPay, and new platforms while maintaining meticulous documentation and adherence to established methodologies.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients throughout benchmarking engagements, proactively addressing inquiries, requests, and support issues with a high level of professionalism.
- Manage client communications through professional email correspondence and virtual meetings, presenting benchmarking methodologies, pricing recommendations, and project findings clearly and consultatively.
- Conduct match review sessions with clients to validate job matches, review pricing outcomes, address concerns, and identify opportunities for process improvement and value enhancement.
- Create and maintain Salesforce reports, dashboards, and project-tracking tools to support operational visibility, data integrity, and decision-making for the benchmarking team.
- Develop and document standard operating procedures (SOPs), process guides, and training materials to improve team efficiency, consistency, and scalability.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements, automation, and workflow optimization to enhance productivity and reduce manual effort in repetitive tasks.
- Provide support on urgent, high-priority, or complex benchmarking projects to ensure successful on-time delivery and client satisfaction.
- Collaborate closely with Customer Success Managers and Compensation Professionals to ensure seamless project execution and alignment with broader client success objectives.
- Maintain organized administrative records and project documentation throughout the project lifecycle, including setup, pay market creation, account reviews, report generation, and project closeout activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in a relevant field such as business, economics, human resources, or finance.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze job descriptions and organizational context to determine appropriate compensation values and market matches.
- Experience with using PayScale data products, including Ascent, JobNav, and Paycycle, or similar compensation intelligence platforms.
- Strong understanding of compensable factors including scope, complexity, responsibility, experience requirements, and organizational context.
- Proficiency in Salesforce or comparable CRM/database systems for maintaining project records and generating reports.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to facilitate client calls, present findings, and manage professional email correspondence.
- Ability to independently manage multiple priorities and deadlines while maintaining attention to detail and high-quality output.
- Familiarity with creating and maintaining standard operating procedures, process guides, and training documentation.
- Willingness to engage in process improvement initiatives aimed at improving team efficiency and consistency.
- Capacity to review and validate work completed by junior team members, ensuring accuracy and adherence to methodologies.
- Commitment to maintaining client confidentiality and handling sensitive compensation data with professionalism.
