What you'll do
- Provide comprehensive legal advice on various aspects of the business, including contract law, corporate governance, and regulatory compliance.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of legal documents, including contracts, agreements, and policy documents, ensuring they are in line with applicable laws and regulations.
- Monitor changes in legislation and regulatory developments that may impact the company, advising on necessary adjustments to policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with internal teams, including compliance, risk management, and operations, to ensure that legal considerations are integrated into business processes.
- Conduct legal research and analysis to support the development of company policies and procedures, ensuring they reflect current legal standards.
- Assist in the management of legal disputes and claims, working closely with external legal counsel as necessary to protect the company's interests.
- Develop and implement training programs for employees on legal compliance and best practices, fostering a culture of awareness and adherence to legal standards.
- Support the company in maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of legal documents and compliance activities, ensuring transparency and accountability.
- Participate in strategic planning sessions, providing legal insights that inform business decisions and long-term strategies.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies and industry associations to represent the company's interests and stay abreast of industry trends and developments.
- Prepare reports and presentations for senior management and the board of directors, summarizing legal risks and compliance status.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of legal processes and systems within the organization, enhancing efficiency and effectiveness.
Requirements
- A law degree from an accredited institution, with a focus on corporate law, financial services, or a related field.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in a legal role, preferably within the financial technology or financial services sector.
- Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks applicable to the fintech industry, including data protection, anti-money laundering, and consumer protection laws.
- Proven experience in drafting and negotiating contracts and legal documents.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex legal issues and provide clear, actionable advice.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders effectively.
- High level of integrity and professionalism, with a commitment to ethical standards and compliance.
Nice to have
- Experience working in a startup or fast-paced environment, with a demonstrated ability to adapt to changing priorities.
- Familiarity with international legal frameworks and cross-border regulatory issues.
- Additional qualifications or certifications in compliance or risk management.
- Proficiency in a second language, particularly Dutch or another European language, is a plus.

- Proficient in legal research tools and databases, such as Westlaw or LexisNexis.
- Familiarity with contract management software and compliance management systems.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly in Word and Excel, for document preparation and data analysis.
- Experience with project management tools to track legal projects and compliance initiatives.
