The Director of Business Operations and Strategy will own the planning and execution of initiatives that improve how the organization runs across its core functions. This position reports to senior leadership and works closely with teams spanning operations, finance, product, and technology. The director will be responsible for analyzing business performance data, identifying opportunities for improvement, and driving projects that deliver measurable impact. The role requires a blend of strategic thinking and hands-on operational management to help the company scale effectively. The director will also serve as a point of escalation for operational issues and help define the standards by which the organization measures success.

What you'll do
Lead the development of quarterly and annual business plans that align operational priorities with company-wide goals and objectives.
Partner with cross-functional leaders to evaluate existing processes and recommend changes that increase efficiency and reduce friction.
Monitor key performance indicators across the organization and prepare regular reports for executive stakeholders and board members.
Coordinate special projects that require input from multiple departments and ensure timely delivery of outcomes.
Support the design and implementation of new operational frameworks that can be applied as the company grows.
Work with the finance team to build forecasts, track budgets, and identify variances from planned targets.
Facilitate workshops and working sessions to gather input from diverse teams and synthesize findings into clear recommendations.
Drive the tracking of strategic initiatives from conception through completion, maintaining visibility for all involved parties.
Analyze market trends and competitive dynamics to inform internal strategy discussions and long-range planning.
Communicate progress and results to leadership teams using clear, data-driven narratives and visual presentations.
Requirements
Demonstrated experience in business operations, strategy, or management consulting with a track record of delivering results.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data sets and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, with experience presenting complex topics to senior leadership audiences.
Proven ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Comfort with ambiguity and the capacity to make sound decisions with incomplete information.
A collaborative mindset that builds trust and credibility across functions and levels of an organization.
Experience working in a regulated industry such as health insurance or healthcare services is valued.
A bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in business, finance, or a related discipline.
Nice to have
Familiarity with health insurance products, payer operations, or the broader healthcare ecosystem.
Experience using data visualization tools to communicate complex analyses to non-technical audiences.
Background in process improvement methodologies such as lean or six sigma frameworks.
Prior exposure to startup or high-growth environments where structures and processes were built from the ground up.
Skills & tools
Proficiency in spreadsheet applications for financial modeling, forecasting, and data analysis tasks.
Experience with presentation software to create clear and compelling materials for leadership reviews.
Familiarity with project management platforms to track initiatives and coordinate across teams.
Knowledge of SQL or other query languages for extracting and manipulating data independently.
Understanding of business intelligence platforms and their role in supporting decision-making.
Ability to use statistical methods and quantitative reasoning to evaluate business scenarios.

This role is based in New York City and requires regular in-person presence at the company office.
