We are currently on the lookout for a Java Engineer to join our DHA EIDS team, where your primary responsibility will be to design and maintain backend services that support health data transmission throughout the Military Health System.

What you'll do
- Architect and develop backend services and APIs leveraging Java (versions 11 and 17+) and .NET technologies (ASP.NET Core / .NET 6+).
- Create and maintain RESTful APIs and microservices utilizing Spring Boot alongside ASP.NET Core frameworks.
- Work across the entire backend stack, focusing on business logic, data access layers, and API integrations.
- Write clean, well-structured code that is thoroughly tested, employing tools such as JUnit and xUnit/NUnit while adhering to test-driven development practices.
- Make use of AI-assisted development tools, including Claude Code or Cursor, to improve delivery efficiency while maintaining high standards of code quality and security.
- Participate in the establishment of CI/CD pipelines and adopt DevOps methodologies using tools like Git and GitHub Actions.
- Engage actively in code reviews, technical design discussions, and Agile ceremonies to foster a collaborative team environment.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment on project goals and deliverables.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience in professional software development.
- Strong proficiency in Java, with hands-on experience in modern Java frameworks and the Spring ecosystem (including Spring Boot, Spring MVC, and JPA/Hibernate).
- Familiarity with .NET development, specifically with C#, ASP.NET Core, and Web API creation.
- Solid understanding of SQL and experience with relational databases such as MS SQL Server or Oracle.
- Experience with unit and integration testing frameworks is essential.
- Familiarity with AI coding tools like Claude Code or Cursor for enhancing development processes.
- Knowledge of containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes, as well as cloud services like AWS, is a plus.
- Awareness of federal security and compliance standards is beneficial.
- A strong preference for working in a remote, collaborative Agile setting, valuing teamwork across various functions.
- Excellent communication skills, both in technical discussions and during cross-team planning sessions.
- Willingness to take on additional related responsibilities as needed.
Education
- A Bachelor's Degree is required for this position.

Compensation
At Oddball, we are committed to providing competitive and fair compensation for all our employees. The salary range for this Java Engineer position is between $100,000 and $140,000, with actual compensation being influenced by the specific job category, geographical location, and the qualifications of the candidate.
