About the role
Oddball is seeking a Senior Full Stack Engineer to join Oddball Labs and serve as one of the team's senior technical contributors. This role reports to the VP of Architecture and works across a wide range of projects, technologies, and problem spaces - often early in their lifecycle and still taking shape. The ideal candidate is a strong generalist engineer who's comfortable moving between domains, learning new tools quickly, and helping turn loosely defined ideas into working software. You will partner closely with architects, designers, and engineers, contribute hands-on code, and help shape technical direction across exploratory and production-bound efforts, including work that leverages AI/ML and Generative AI where it adds real value. You will own the full lifecycle of software delivery, translating ambiguous requirements into robust, scalable solutions while mentoring less experienced team members. This position is critical to driving innovation and ensuring that the technical solutions we build meet the highest standards of quality and reliability in the federal space.

What you'll do
Design, build, and iterate on software solutions ranging from prototypes to production systems while maintaining a focus on long-term maintainability and scalability.
Collaborate closely with architects, designers, product partners, and engineers to explore new ideas and technical approaches, ensuring alignment with business objectives and user needs.
Work across a variety of technologies, languages, and frameworks depending on the problem space, adapting your skill set to meet evolving project demands.
Help evaluate and apply emerging technologies, including AI/ML and GenAI, where they create real value for users and the organization.
Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code and help establish good engineering practices within Labs to promote consistency and quality across projects.
Support architectural decisions and provide technical guidance to less senior engineers when needed, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and growth.
Contribute to technical discovery, experimentation, and rapid learning across the team, using data and feedback to inform future directions.
Evaluate technical feasibility and risks for new initiatives, ensuring that proposed solutions are practical and aligned with resource constraints.
Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and retrospectives to continuously improve the development process and outcomes.
Act as a technical advocate for the team, representing Labs in cross-functional conversations and decision-making forums.
Explore and prototype new tools, frameworks, and methodologies to enhance productivity and innovation within the engineering workflow.
Collaborate with security and compliance stakeholders to ensure that all solutions adhere to federal standards and best practices.
Document technical designs, decisions, and processes to ensure clarity and continuity across the team and for future maintenance.
Mentor and coach junior engineers, helping them grow their skills and confidence while elevating the overall technical capability of the team.
Contribute to the definition and refinement of technical roadmaps, providing input based on real-world constraints and opportunities.
Requirements
Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. In alignment with federal contract requirements, certain roles may also require U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a federal background investigation and/or a security clearance.
You must demonstrate strong general software engineering experience with the ability to work across different tech stacks and adapt to new environments quickly.
You must be comfortable operating in ambiguous problem spaces with evolving requirements, showing resilience and creativity when facing uncertainty.
You must have experience designing and building modern applications, services, or platforms that are scalable, reliable, and secure.
You must have familiarity with cloud-based systems and modern development workflows, including version control, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code.
You must have experience developing or integrating generative AI applications, understanding both the technical and practical implications of these technologies.
You must have the ability to quickly learn new technologies and apply them thoughtfully, ensuring that solutions are appropriate and sustainable.
You must possess strong collaboration and communication skills, especially in cross-functional environments where diverse stakeholders need to be aligned.
You must have a pragmatic mindset, knowing when to prototype quickly and when to engineer for scale, balancing speed with quality.
You must have a strong grounding in security, privacy, and accessibility principles, particularly when handling sensitive or regulated data common in federal contexts.
You must be willing to perform other related duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and a commitment to team success.
You must be able to work hybrid or remote, with a requirement to participate in in-office collaboration at specified times.
You must be located in the DMV area, including Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia, to ensure effective coordination with government partners.
You must be authorized to work in the United States and meet federal eligibility requirements for roles involving public sector projects.
