About the role
Nuro is expanding its autonomous driving focus from delivery robotics into the ride-hailing and personal vehicle market. You will contribute to the development of our automated driving software stack as we transition toward licensing our technology for passenger transport. In this role, you will own the design and implementation of critical software components that enable safe and reliable autonomous passenger experiences. You will adapt our existing Nuro Driver platform to satisfy the stringent safety and performance benchmarks required for robotaxi deployment in real-world conditions. You will work closely with cross-functional partners to integrate our autonomy stack into diverse third-party vehicle platforms and validate core functionality. Your work will directly influence the scalability and robustness of our driving software across varied passenger transit environments and operational scenarios. What you'll do
- Design and implement software components for autonomous passenger vehicles, ensuring high standards of safety and performance.

- Optimize software performance to ensure responsive decision-making and efficient resource utilization in real-time driving scenarios.
- Implement testing and validation procedures that verify software correctness and compliance with internal safety standards.
- Document system designs and processes to support knowledge sharing and long-term maintainability of the codebase.
- Support debugging and troubleshooting efforts for field deployments to identify and resolve issues quickly.
- Contribute to the refinement of product requirements and technical specifications based on feedback from stakeholders.
- Mentor junior engineers and collaborate closely with peers to uphold engineering excellence and best practices.
- Drive the execution of software deliverables within agile schedules to support the strategic goals of the ride-hailing product.
Requirements
- Proven experience in autonomous vehicle software development, with a track record of delivering reliable systems.
- Deep expertise in C++ and software architecture for real-time systems, including performance-critical and safety-oriented design.
- Demonstrated ability to work on-site at our Mountain View headquarters, aligning closely with team operations and company standards.
- Strong understanding of software development lifecycle practices, including version control, code review, and continuous integration.
- Experience with complex system integration and debugging in dynamic, real-world operational environments.
- Solid grasp of software engineering fundamentals such as data structures, algorithms, and concurrent programming.
- Commitment to maintaining high standards of code quality, documentation, and technical communication.
