Software Engineer, Autonomy Visualization
Job description
About the role
Join our team to build the visual systems that interpret how our autonomous driving software perceives the world. You will create tools that allow engineers to inspect and debug complex robotic decision-making processes. Your work directly impacts the safety and reliability of our self-driving technology as we expand into robotaxis and licensed vehicle systems. In this role, you will own the design and implementation of visualization frameworks that translate raw sensor inputs into actionable insights for our autonomy engineers. You will be responsible for ensuring that these tools provide clear, accurate, and performant representations of the vehicle's operational domain. This position requires ownership of the full stack, from low-level data ingestion to high-level user interaction within the analytics environment. You will work closely with cross-functional partners to define the requirements for new visualization capabilities that support our evolving product needs. Your contributions will be integral to the continuous improvement of our simulation and debugging workflows, helping to accelerate the development of our autonomous vehicle software.

- Create metrics and visual overlays that communicate the confidence and accuracy of perception algorithms.
- Design data ingestion systems that efficiently manage the flow of information from distributed testing vehicles.
- Maintain and extend core libraries that support the visualization of 3D environments and object tracking.
- Partner with product teams to translate high-level goals into specific visualization requirements for engineering teams.
- Conduct code reviews to ensure that new visualization features adhere to our strict performance and quality standards.
- Explore emerging visualization techniques to improve the clarity and responsiveness of our analytical tools.
- Document the architecture and usage of visualization tools to support onboarding and long-term maintenance.
- Drive the definition of best practices for how data is represented within the autonomy visualization ecosystem.
Requirements
- Proficiency in C++ and modern graphics APIs is essential for developing the core rendering components of our tools.
- Experience building complex software tools for robotics or autonomous systems is required to understand the domain-specific challenges.
- A strong understanding of 3D geometry and data visualization techniques is necessary to accurately represent spatial information.
- You must be able to write efficient, maintainable code for performance-critical applications where latency directly impacts analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced engineering environment where requirements evolve rapidly.
- Strong problem-solving skills are required to diagnose issues that span the interaction between data processing and visualization.
- Experience with version control systems and collaborative development workflows is mandatory for success in this role.
- You must be able to communicate technical concepts clearly to both engineering and non-technical stakeholders during planning discussions.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with web-based visualization frameworks or game engines.
- Experience working with large-scale sensor data like LiDAR, radar, or camera streams.
- Background in UI/UX design for technical engineering tools.
