Senior Technical Product Manager, Banking Platform

About the role

You are a senior technical product manager who owns the end-to-end discovery, architecture, requirements, build, launch, and post-launch lifecycle for Sezzle's banking core platform. This role is responsible for the system at the center of Sezzle's evolution into a full-stack financial institution, including the ledger, accounts and balances, and money movement that will power every future financial product. You will work directly with Engineering, Finance, Compliance, Treasury, and Risk with real authority over how this critical platform gets built and evolved. You are best in class with a high IQ plus a high EQ, thriving in a fast-paced environment within a rapidly growing team. If you have built or deeply owned financial infrastructure like a ledger, payments platform, or issuing program before, you are the kind of person who learns a domain properly rather than around the edges, and we want you to go deep on the parts you do not yet know.

What you'll do

Define and sequence the platform work required to support accounts, deposits, cards, and lending on a single ledger and account model as you own the banking platform roadmap.

Evaluate core banking platforms and processors, run vendor diligence, model cost and time-to-market, and help leadership decide whether we extend what we have or integrate a third party as you help drive the build-vs-buy decision.

Work with Engineering and Finance on account hierarchies, sub-ledgers, chart-of-accounts mapping, posting rules, holds, interest and fee accrual, and general ledger integration to shape the account and ledger model.

Own product requirements for transfers, ACH, card issuing and network settlement, real-time rails, and returns and reversals - including exception handling, cutoff windows, and settlement reconciliation as you specify money movement.

Ensure the system produces the reporting, traceability, and controls that Finance, audit, and regulators need - reconciliation breaks, balance attestation, and complete transaction history so the platform is auditable.

Work with Compliance and Legal to turn their requirements into platform capabilities such as screening hooks, onboarding data, error resolution, disclosures and statements, and reporting as you partner on regulatory readiness.

If a migration is in scope, own data mapping, parallel-run strategy, validation criteria, rollback plans, and phased cutover as you plan migration and cutover for the banking platform.

Own detailed specs, API contracts, event schemas, data models, user stories, and release plans end-to-end as you write the technical requirements for the platform.

Write your own SQL and define platform KPIs - posting latency, reconciliation break rate, settlement accuracy, failure rates - and monitor them relentlessly to use data to prove it works.

Represent the banking platform in cross-functional discussions, translating complex technical and domain concepts into clear decisions and tradeoffs for stakeholders.

Drive prioritization and execution against the platform roadmap, balancing urgent operational needs with long-term architectural integrity and scalability.

Collaborate closely with Finance and Risk to ensure controls, fraud detection, and compliance logic are baked into the product design from the start.

Champion best practices for reliability, observability, and security in the banking infrastructure, ensuring the platform meets industry standards.

Facilitate alignment across Engineering, Finance, Compliance, Treasury, and Risk to unblock decisions and keep the platform moving forward.

Requirements

You must have a strong background in financial infrastructure, having owned a ledger, a payments platform, an issuing program, or other financial systems that handle money and settlements.

You must be comfortable learning complex financial domains and regulatory environments, diving into details without needing to be an expert on day one.

You must have experience writing SQL and using data to validate product outcomes and drive decisions.

You must be able to translate ambiguous problems into clear product requirements and work through tradeoffs with engineering and stakeholders.

You must have strong written and verbal communication skills to partner with technical and non-technical stakeholders across the business and represent the product with confidence.

You must be highly organized, comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, and able to make decisions with incomplete information.

You must be willing to go deep on technologies and domains you have not yet mastered and take ownership of the full product lifecycle.

You must be able to work effectively in a remote-first environment and collaborate across time zones with a globally distributed team.

Practical notes

Salary range for this role is $5,000 - $8,000 per month (Gross in USD).
