About the role
The Medical Director for Oncology at Natera plays a role in driving clinical development and formulating the medical strategy for the company's molecular diagnostics focusing on genitourinary (GU) cancers. This position involves generating essential clinical evidence and collaborating with external experts to facilitate the integration of innovative diagnostic tools into clinical practice.

What you'll do
- Partner with senior leadership to devise and execute clinical strategies for GU cancer molecular diagnostic tools, particularly those related to minimal residual disease and circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) monitoring.
- Spearhead the design and implementation of clinical studies that incorporate Natera's technologies into established GU oncology treatment protocols.
- Identify and engage principal investigators and clinical sites for company-sponsored research, overseeing project timelines and budget management.
- Provide strategic input on the development of products within the GU oncology portfolio, pinpointing clinical needs, potential new offerings, and critical features.
- Deliver post-launch medical affairs support by offering clinical guidance to healthcare providers and assisting with patient counseling.
- Serve as the subject matter expert on GU oncology for both commercial and clinical teams.
- Develop and present medical education initiatives, including external training sessions and scientific materials related to GU malignancies.
- Identify and collaborate with Key Opinion Leaders in GU oncology for advisory boards and strategic insights.
- Facilitate the publication of research findings in partnership with scientific communications teams.
- Contribute medical insights for regulatory submissions concerning GU cancer diagnostic products.
- Represent Natera's medical perspective at public relations events, industry panels, and conferences centered on GU oncology.
Requirements
- A Medical Doctor (M.D.) degree is essential, with board certification or eligibility in Radiation Oncology being preferred.
- Completion of residency training in Radiation Oncology is required.
- At least 3 years of clinical practice experience post-residency, specifically in treating GU cancers such as prostate, bladder, and kidney cancers as a radiation oncologist.
- A thorough understanding of GU cancer treatment methodologies, clinical guidelines, and diagnostic processes is necessary.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in clinical trials within academic, biotech, or pharmaceutical environments is required.
- Willingness to travel up to 40% of the time, primarily within the United States, with occasional international travel.
Nice to have
- Previous experience with ctDNA, minimal residual disease (MRD), or liquid biopsy technologies is advantageous.
- Established relationships with GU oncology Key Opinion Leaders and academic networks would be beneficial.
- Experience in supporting product launches or facilitating the adoption of diagnostic tools in oncology is a plus.

Practical notes
The compensation range for this position is between $243,800 and $304,700 USD. This range serves as a good-faith estimate, with final compensation being determined based on experience, qualifications, and internal equity. The role is eligible for an annual performance bonus and long-term equity awards.
