About the role
You will own the end-to-end top of funnel sales process for MotherDuck in the New York City market, acting as the primary point of contact for prospective customers and shaping the narrative around cloud-based data analytics. This role requires you to actively listen, ask insightful questions, and determine if a prospect is a strong strategic fit for our platform, translating complex data concepts into clear business value. You will build and maintain a robust pipeline of high-quality leads that directly supports the growth targets of our Account Executives. You will work hand-in-hand with Sales and Marketing to refine messaging, ensuring that our value proposition resonates deeply with the pain points of our target customers. You will continuously gather and incorporate feedback from prospects to iterate and improve our go-to-market approach over time.

What you'll do
- Identify and qualify high-value opportunities by actively listening to prospects and determining fit for MotherDuck's cloud data analytics solutions.
- Build and maintain a consistent pipeline of qualified leads to support the sales cycle and ensure a steady flow of opportunities for Account Executives.
- Educate prospects on MotherDuck's value proposition, translating technical differentiators into clear outcomes that resonate with specific business pain points.
- Collaborate closely with Sales, Marketing, and Product teams to refine messaging, optimize outreach sequences, and improve overall engagement effectiveness.
- Communicate complex data concepts with clarity and simplicity, ensuring potential customers fully grasp the strategic advantage of using MotherDuck.
- Gather qualitative feedback from interactions with prospects to inform continuous improvements in messaging, positioning, and sales strategy.
- Adapt your approach dynamically based on different industries, distinct customer pain points, and varied personality types to maximize engagement.
- Maintain meticulous records in our CRM, manage follow-ups diligently, and consistently refine outreach strategies to enhance performance.
- Conduct targeted outbound prospecting through email, phone, and social channels to generate interest, secure meetings, and drive pipeline growth.
- Stay deeply curious and continuously learn about data analytics trends, industry shifts, and the evolving challenges our customers face to remain relevant in conversations.
Requirements
- You hold the right to work in the United States without sponsorship, as this role is based in New York City and requires immediate onboarding.
- You are authorized to work in the United States for the duration of this role, and we are unable to provide work authorization sponsorship at this time.
- You reside in or are relocating to the New York City area, as this position requires you to be physically present in the office.

- You are comfortable using CRM tools to track interactions, document outcomes, and report on pipeline progress accurately.
- You have a proven track record of meeting or exceeding quotas in a previous business development or sales role.
Nice to have
- Previous experience in a BDR or sales development role within the data, analytics, or technology sectors.
- Familiarity with modern data stacks, cloud platforms, and the challenges associated with data warehousing.
- Experience using outreach tools such as email sequences, LinkedIn, and sales engagement platforms.
- A background in coaching, consulting, or any role that required rapid relationship-building and trust establishment.
- Knowledge of DuckDB or an understanding of lightweight, embedded analytics databases.
- Comfort working with cross-functional stakeholders to align messaging and positioning.
Practical notes
This role is based in our New York City office and requires your physical presence. The engagement is full-time, and you will be expected to adhere to standard working hours as defined by our team's operational needs. We are currently unable to sponsor work authorization for this position, and candidates must have the right to work in the United States without sponsorship. Relocation to the New York City area may be necessary for this position.
