Account Executive
Job description
About the role
This role owns the end-to-end commercial journey for new and existing customers within a fast-growing data analytics environment. You will act as the primary commercial partner for a portfolio of data engineers, analysts, and technical decision-makers, ensuring their problems are understood and clearly solved. The hire will bring authentic confidence and entrepreneurial ownership to every interaction, driving conversations that turn complex technical questions into compelling business value. You will light up when a customer finally connects the dots on a hard problem and will love the energy of collaborative deal teams. Success in this position means you shape the sales motion rather than simply executing a script, working hand-in-hand with product and engineering to close deals and build long-term partnerships.

- Drive new revenue by prospecting, engaging, and closing new business across a mix of inbound and outbound opportunities in the data analytics and database space.
- Own the full sales cycle from first touch to signed contract, guiding prospects through the buying process and ensuring they feel the value of MotherDuck at every step.
- Connect with data engineers, analysts, and technical decision-makers to understand their challenges and communicate how MotherDuck solves them clearly and convincingly.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product, marketing, and customer success to share feedback, align on messaging, and continuously improve go-to-market strategies.
- Contribute to the refinement of the sales playbook by helping shape positioning, strategies, and processes so the organization can scale efficiently and delightfully.

- Act as the trusted commercial voice for MotherDuck in the data analytics, database, and developer tooling ecosystems, demonstrating deep product and technical curiosity.
- Navigate complex enterprise buying committees with resilience and adaptability, pushing through setbacks and staying focused on the revenue goal.

Requirements
- Proven experience in SaaS sales, ideally within the data analytics, database, or developer tooling space where you understand the nuances of the technology.
- Strong product and technical curiosity, where you enjoy learning how the technology works and how it solves real-world problems for customers even if you are not an engineer.
- A consistent track record of meeting or exceeding quota and helping build revenue in a fast-moving, iterative environment that demands adaptability.
- Drive and resilience to push through setbacks, learn quickly from challenges, and stay intensely focused on the long-term revenue goal.
- Coach-ability and self-awareness, demonstrated by actively seeking feedback, acting on it, and showing measurable growth over time.
- A strong alignment to the company values of agency, where you take initiative and act like an owner in every situation.
- A commitment to thoughtfulness, showing that you consider the "why" behind every decision you make in the sales process.
- An openness to unorthodoxy, where you are comfortable with creative approaches and fresh thinking to solve complex sales problems.
- The flexibility to adapt quickly and remain calm in ambiguity, navigating shifting priorities and stakeholder needs with ease.
- A demonstrated ability to work effectively with data engineers, analysts, and technical stakeholders who will ask hard questions that you must answer with confidence.
Nice to have
- Experience selling cloud-native data platforms or modern database solutions that bridge local development and cloud operations.
- Familiarity with the DuckDB ecosystem or the philosophy behind high-performance analytical engines.
- Background working in a hybrid sales environment that balances inbound demand with outbound prospecting.
