What you'll do
- Assist in the development and implementation of health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Participate in safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions to mitigate risks.
- Help prepare and maintain safety documentation, including incident reports, safety meeting minutes, and training records.
- Support the organization and execution of safety training sessions for employees, ensuring they are well-informed about safety practices and procedures.
- Collaborate with project managers and site supervisors to promote a culture of safety on construction sites.
- Conduct research on best practices in health, safety, and environmental management to enhance existing programs.
- Assist in the investigation of accidents and near-misses, identifying root causes and recommending preventive measures.
- Monitor compliance with safety regulations and report any non-conformities to the HSE Manager.
- Participate in the development of safety awareness campaigns to engage employees and promote a proactive approach to safety.
- Help maintain safety equipment and ensure that it is in good working condition, reporting any issues to the appropriate personnel.
- Attend team meetings and contribute ideas for improving safety performance across the organization.
- Support the HSE team in various administrative tasks as needed to ensure smooth operations.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Familiarity with health, safety, and environmental regulations and standards, particularly in the construction industry.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify and assess risks effectively.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to convey safety information clearly.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while also being self-motivated.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges in a fast-paced setting.
- Previous internship or work experience in a related field is a plus but not mandatory.
Nice to have
- Certification in First Aid and CPR.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety management systems.
- Experience with safety training or public speaking.
- Familiarity with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
- Bilingual skills, particularly in Spanish, are advantageous.
Skills & tools
The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in health and safety principles, along with proficiency in various software tools used for data analysis and reporting. Familiarity with safety management software and tools for risk assessment will be beneficial.
