About the role
MongoDB is seeking an Engineering Manager to join the Atlas Organization, which is dedicated to the development of MongoDB Atlas, our rapidly growing database-as-a-service platform. This position will involve leading the Atlas Data Federation & Archiving team, which is focused on helping customers efficiently manage data storage and perform federated queries.

- Participate in the design, coding, and architectural decisions of the systems your team manages.
- Collaborate with various teams across MongoDB to influence the product roadmap and enhance our service offerings.
- Work alongside customers and support engineers to troubleshoot issues and be part of the on-call rotation.
- Collaborate closely with team members to improve the codebase, establish best practices, and define design standards.

- Mentor team members, providing guidance and support to help them achieve their professional goals.
- Analyze and optimize system performance, ensuring reliability and scalability of services.

- Facilitate regular team meetings to discuss progress, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.

Requirements
- A minimum of 6 years of experience in professional software development is required.
- At least 3 years of experience in a leadership role managing engineering teams.
- Demonstrated success in leading teams that have built and maintained large-scale systems.
- Expertise in developing large-scale, distributed backend systems using a compiled programming language such as Go, Java, or C#.
- Familiarity with at least one major cloud service provider (AWS, Azure, GCP) and associated cloud storage solutions (S3, GCS, Azure Blob).
- Hands-on experience with data infrastructure or storage solutions capable of handling petabyte-scale data.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- A curious, collaborative spirit with a strong drive for results.
Success Measures
- In your first month, you will gain a solid understanding of the core components of the system and the current features and projects within the Atlas Clusters team.
- By the end of three months, you will actively contribute to the design and development of your team's projects while focusing on team development.
- After six months, you and your team will be equipped to handle medium-sized projects, guiding your team toward achieving engineering and product goals while supporting customers during escalations and participating in the on-call rotation.
