You own the physical execution of trenching, conduit placement, and cable handling that keeps communities connected and the grid resilient. You are responsible for reading and interpreting construction plans to ensure accurate layout and depth for underground infrastructure. You own the daily upkeep of the job site, including managing cable coils, organizing tools, and maintaining clear access routes for equipment. You support the installation of power transmission, power distribution, renewable energy, and communication networks that harden the electrical grid and deliver reliable connectivity. You maintain a strict focus on safety protocols, ensuring your actions and those of your crew align with all company standards and union requirements. You take pride in completing tasks efficiently while protecting the integrity of the cables and the surrounding environment. You contribute to meaningful work that improves lives by enabling reliable energy and communication access for the public.

What you'll do
- Execute precise trenching operations using hand tools and equipment to prepare the bed for cable placement.
- Install and position protective casing and conduit to safeguard solid and stranded conductors as well as copper, fiber optic, and coaxial cable.
- Assist with the direct burial of various cable types in alignment with project specifications and underground system requirements.
- Support crews in the construction, maintenance, and repair of telecommunication and electrical distribution systems across diverse environments.
- Operate equipment safely and efficiently to uphold job site productivity and reduce the risk of damage or delays.
- Monitor cable handling procedures to prevent strain or abrasion during installation and ensure proper coil management.
- Maintain a clean and organized worksite by removing debris, managing cable coils, and signaling equipment movement clearly to crew members.
- Follow directional boring and trenching guidance to avoid conflicts with existing utilities and maintain accurate depth tolerances.
- Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot installation issues and implement corrective actions without compromising safety.
- Adhere to all union collective bargaining agreement requirements while performing duties in a team-based environment.
- Document job progress and communicate any concerns or needs to ensure continuity and compliance with project timelines.
- Support the integration of renewable energy and communication networks by preparing infrastructure that meets evolving technology demands.
Requirements
- 1-3 months of related construction, utility, or labor experience is required for this role.
- You must be able to safely use hand tools and equipment for underground cable installation in a variety of conditions.
- Demonstrated reliability, teamwork, and accountability on the jobsite are essential for success in this position.
- Willingness to work under a union collective bargaining agreement is mandatory for all team members.
- A valid driver's license for the type(s) of vehicles you may be driving is required, along with an acceptable driving record.
- Commercial Driver's License is desired and may be considered a preferred qualification depending on assignment needs.
- You must meet eligibility standards as defined by the role without exception to ensure safety and performance.
- You must be able to follow instructions precisely and execute tasks according to established procedures and specifications.
- Physical ability to perform labor-intensive work, including lifting, bending, and extended periods of activity, is required.
