Senior Product Designer - Core Mobile Experiences
Job description
Senior Product Designer - Core Mobile Experiences at Mercury.
About the role
The Memphis Group burst onto the scene in the early 1980s with a belief that design could be more than purely functional - it could be bold, expressive, and deeply human. They expanded what design could be, embracing color, emotion, and personality at a time when clarity and restraint dominated. That same spirit of possibility, of questioning defaults and reimagining what tools can feel like, still resonates today. At Mercury, we're building *banking for builders. Entrepreneurs who are on the go and need to manage their business from anywhere. We're rethinking what financial tools can feel like when they're designed with real people in mind: fast, expressive, and thoughtfully crafted from the ground up. You will own the holistic vision and craft of Mercury's native iOS and Android experience, defining the emotional and functional arc of the product from first sketch to post-launch iteration. You will push the fidelity of what's possible in a native-first environment - interaction design, motion, and visual language - to create moments of delight that feel impossible on other platforms. You will shape a clear mobile POV and advocate for it across a decentralized, cross-functional design model, ensuring that the mobile perspective is heard in every major decision. You will partner closely with a highly senior engineering team to elevate quality and raise the bar, collaborating as a peer rather than a downstream requestor. You will lead major initiatives from concept through launch, and see your work used by real businesses immediately, directly impacting how founders manage their day. You will raise the quality bar for interaction, visual design, and product thinking across the team, mentoring others and setting standards that outlast any single project. You will contribute to our design systems and help evolve patterns across platforms, ensuring consistency and expressiveness coexist seamlessly.
Key facts
What you'll do
Define the end-to-end experience of Mercury's mobile apps, orchestrating flows that feel native, intuitive, and inspiring across iOS and Android. Champion a native-first philosophy by rejecting compromise and exploring interactions that only touchscreens and modern devices enable. Partner with a senior engineering team to translate bold concepts into production-quality experiences without sacrificing detail or performance. Elevate the visual language of Mercury through deliberate motion, thoughtful typography, and a coherent system that scales across features. Conduct deep product discovery to transform ambiguous founder needs into clear mobile experiences that solve real problems, not just replicate web flows. Advocate for a distinct mobile point of view, ensuring the product feels true to its platform and its users at every turn. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to turn constraints into creative opportunities, maintaining momentum without relying on heavy oversight. Contribute to the growth and refinement of design systems, crafting reusable patterns that support experimentation and speed. Lead the execution of major product initiatives, taking ideas from raw concept to polished launch in coordination with engineering and product leadership. Continuously validate design decisions through qualitative and quantitative signals, iterating to ensure the product improves over time.
Requirements
6-8+ years designing high-quality product experiences, with meaningful time spent on native mobile (iOS and/or Android).
Experience designing complex systems, not just individual screens, to handle real-world workflows and evolving business needs.
A sharp, distinct visual sensibility - you have a point of view, and it shows in your work through consistent craft and clarity.
Comfort operating in ambiguity and low-oversight environments; you move things forward without being pushed by stakeholders or process.
Strong communicator who can build trust with cross-functional partners and advocate for design direction with clarity and conviction.
Someone who geeks out on what's uniquely possible in a native environment - you would rather start over than build on a React Native foundation.
A commitment to building for builders, understanding that the users are entrepreneurs who need speed, reliability, and expressive power from their tools.
The willingness to iterate publicly and treat every launch as a hypothesis, using real business outcomes to guide the next step.
