About the role

We are looking for a dedicated professional to join our team at Tinder. The role involves building and maintaining the backend systems that support our highly popular dating application. You will work closely with the Engineering team to deliver features that foster human connection among millions of people across the globe, ensuring that every interaction feels natural and engaging.

Key facts

What you'll do

1) Design and implement scalable backend services that power the core matching functionality of the Tinder application for tens of millions of users.

2) Optimize existing systems to handle the massive scale of over two billion daily swipes and twenty million matches per day across the platform.

3) Collaborate with cross functional teams to integrate behavioral science and network economics into our technical architecture and product development cycles.

4) Develop and maintain stable APIs that ensure fast and reliable connections between users in more than 190 countries and support hundreds of millions of downloads.

5) Write clean and efficient code that supports the rapid deployment of new features for the dating app while maintaining high standards of quality.

6) Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues to maintain high availability and performance for our global user base across all regions of the world.

7) Participate in code reviews and architectural discussions to continuously improve the overall system design, resilience, and long term maintainability of the platform.

8) Apply artificial intelligence and machine learning concepts to enhance user engagement, improve match prediction algorithms, and drive better connection outcomes for everyone.

9) Ensure online and real world safety measures are integrated directly into the backend infrastructure and data flows to protect all members effectively.

10) Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the engineering culture that values taking the lead, moving fast, and working better together every single day.

Requirements

1) Demonstrated experience building large scale backend systems that serve millions of active users globally and handle substantial traffic volumes consistently over time.

2) Proficiency in modern programming languages commonly used for distributed and high throughput applications, with a strong focus on performance optimization and reliability.

3) Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software design principles for complex problem solving in a fast paced and dynamic environment.

4) Ability to work effectively in a fast paced environment with a bias for action and urgency to ship quality code quickly and efficiently.

5) Experience collaborating with diverse teams across different cultural nuances and time zones around the world to deliver shared objectives and successful outcomes.

6) Deep knowledge of database systems, caching mechanisms, and messaging queues for managing high traffic loads and ensuring data integrity is always maintained.

7) Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and containerization technologies to support scalable and resilient deployments that meet the growing demands of our global user base.

8) Commitment to writing well tested code and maintaining high standards of software quality and reliability throughout the entire software development lifecycle process.

3) Familiarity with RESTful and GraphQL API design patterns for mobile and web clients to deliver smooth and responsive user experiences across all devices.

4) Experience with version control systems like Git to manage collaborative codebases effectively and support continuous integration workflows across the entire engineering team.

5) Understanding of CI CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks for continuous delivery, ensuring that every release meets our strict quality benchmarks and standards.

6) Ability to navigate distributed systems concepts including consensus, fault tolerance, and eventual consistency to build applications that remain available during peak traffic loads.
