Junior Support Engineer, Public Safety Support Organization
Mark43 is seeking a Junior Support Engineer to join its expanding UK support organization. This role serves global customers, including the Greater Manchester Police, by maintaining critical public safety systems. The position is designed for a recent graduate with strong technical foundations who seeks to develop real-world engineering experience in a high-impact, customer-facing environment. This role is engineering-focused, blending customer communication, technical troubleshooting, and direct software investigation. You will work directly with production systems, collaborate with senior engineers, and contribute to real fixes in the product.
Key Responsibilities
You will serve as the first point of contact for customer support requests across multiple channels. These channels include phone, ticketing systems, and email. Your role involves triaging and managing incoming support tickets with precision. You will assess severity and priority and reproduce reported issues to understand their nature. Clear communication with customers regarding status and next steps is a core part of this duty.
A significant portion of the role involves investigating and resolving technical issues. This work spans frontend bugs using JavaScript and TypeScript, API and backend-related issues, and data-related challenges addressed with SQL. You will perform hands-on technical work daily. This work includes writing and executing SQL queries for both read and write operations. You will debug application behaviour using logs and internal tools. Developing small scripts or fixes in TypeScript and JavaScript is expected. Where appropriate, you will propose and implement fixes for simpler issues.
Collaboration with engineering teams is essential. You will escalate complex issues with clear documentation and participate in root cause analysis. Your contributions will support ongoing product improvements. Participation in support operations is also required. You will assist with monitoring and incident response. Supporting continuous improvement of internal processes and documentation is a standard expectation.
Required Qualifications
Applicants must hold a Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field. Acceptable disciplines include Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical areas. A strong grasp of foundational technologies is necessary. You must possess knowledge of JavaScript or TypeScript, SQL and relational databases, and basic web technologies covering APIs, HTTP, and frontend/backend concepts.
Demonstrated ability is a key criterion. You must be able to troubleshoot technical problems logically. The capacity to learn new systems quickly is essential. Clear and professional communication, both written and verbal, is mandatory. You must be authorized to work in the country of this role. The organization is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa at this time.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with specific technical domains is valued. This experience includes writing SQL queries, such as SELECT, UPDATE, and INSERT statements. Debugging frontend applications is another area of focus. Familiarity with REST APIs and JSON data structures is beneficial. Proficiency with Git or other version control systems is preferred.
Exposure to certain environments and practices is also advantageous. This exposure includes production systems or real-world software environments. Experience with scripting or automation is a plus. Familiarity with logging and monitoring tools is considered a benefit.

Important Information
