What you'll do

Drive our vulnerability management program end to end, running scans across cloud infrastructure, networks, and applications, prioritizing findings by risk, and tracking remediation through to closure.

Research emerging threats relevant to our environment, turning threat intelligence into clear, actionable guidance on what to patch, watch, or harden next.

Lead the response to security alerts, triaging incidents, containing issues, coordinating with the wider Cybersecurity team, and documenting post-incident reviews to strengthen future responses.

Review cloud security configurations across our AWS environment, identifying misconfigurations and hardening controls in line with security best practices.

Support colleagues in the Manchester office with day-to-day IT needs, including account access, hardware, and new starter setup as the on-site technical presence.

Take your turn on the on-call rota, remaining ready to respond when critical security incidents occur outside standard business hours.

Monitor security tooling and logs to detect anomalies, escalating potential issues before they affect public safety software.

Maintain documentation of security processes, configurations, and runbooks to ensure consistency and enable effective handoffs.

Implement security controls and safeguards that align with industry standards and regulatory expectations for government software.

Collaborate with engineering and operations partners to embed security into deployment pipelines and infrastructure changes.

Requirements

Minimum of 5 years of experience in cybersecurity, with a strong focus on vulnerability management, threat research, and cloud security.

Demonstrated ability to exercise professional judgement in prioritizing risks, responding to incidents under pressure, and knowing when to seek assistance.

Hands-on experience with cloud environments, particularly AWS, including identity and access management, networking, and compute services.

Familiarity with vulnerability scanners, endpoint protection platforms, and SIEM tooling used for detection and response.

Practical understanding of security frameworks and data protection requirements relevant to UK operations, such as Cyber Essentials or ISO 27001.

Solid general IT support skills across Windows environments, Active Directory, and networking protocols to serve as the on-site resource in Manchester.

Comfortable working on an on-call schedule and collaborating effectively across distributed teams and time zones.

Strong written and verbal communication skills to clearly articulate technical issues, recommendations, and incident timelines to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

A methodical approach to documenting configurations, procedures, and incident responses to maintain clarity and continuity.
