AI - Enabled Software Engineer
Job description
About the role
Mark43 is actively building an AI-Enabled Software Engineer to drive the next generation of intelligent software delivery within its public safety technology stack. The successful candidate will own the conception, implementation, and lifecycle management of AI agent features that directly enhance how engineering teams design, build, and deploy software. This position sits at the intersection of advanced artificial intelligence and mission-critical public safety applications, requiring a disciplined approach to system design and reliability. You will be responsible for translating ambiguous product ambitions into concrete agentic workflows that improve the efficiency and quality of the engineering organization. The role demands close collaboration with both technical and public safety stakeholders to ensure that intelligent tooling solves real operational problems. You will shape the architectural patterns for agent coordination, focusing on workflows that span code generation, testing, and deployment automation. Ultimately, your work will define the standards for how AI agents are integrated into the core engineering pipelines at Mark43.
Key facts
What you'll do
Orchestrate the full lifecycle of AI agent features, translating ambiguous product requirements into robust agentic workflows that drive measurable improvements in engineering velocity.
Design and implement multi-agent systems capable of autonomous coordination for tasks such as code writing, testing, and deployment within secure and controlled environments.
Conduct rigorous experimentation with agentic tooling to validate hypotheses and refine workflows that enhance the quality and reliability of software delivery.
Review and analyze agent-generated outputs to identify failure modes and iteratively refine guardrails, ensuring consistent and safe behavior in public safety contexts.
Integrate AI agents incrementally into existing engineering pipelines, ensuring new capabilities are production-ready and maintain backward compatibility.
Collaborate closely with product managers and public safety subject matter experts to align agent behavior with real-world operational needs and constraints.
Monitor agent performance in production environments, collecting insights and adapting workflows to optimize reliability, efficiency, and user satisfaction.
Establish and evolve coding standards and best practices that enable engineering teams to effectively leverage AI assistance while maintaining high levels of code quality.
Enable seamless collaboration between human engineers and AI agents by improving tooling, interfaces, and the overall developer experience.
Champion the evaluation of agentic workflows, defining success metrics and continuously improving the system based on empirical evidence and user feedback.
Maintain deep technical expertise in agent interaction patterns and state management, ensuring that complex workflows remain predictable and debuggable.
Partner with infrastructure teams to ensure that the platform supporting AI agents is scalable, secure, and observable in production.
Promote a culture of experimentation and learning, encouraging the responsible adoption of AI technologies across the engineering organization.
Serve as a technical leader for AI-enabled software engineering, mentoring peers and contributing to the architectural direction of the platform.
Requirements
You must hold eligibility to work in the United Kingdom without the need for sponsorship, confirming your right to work for any employer in the specified location.
You possess professional experience building software applications using modern programming languages and contemporary cloud infrastructure.
You demonstrate a solid understanding of how to design interactions between AI agents and manage state across complex, multi-step workflows.
You have the ability to deconstruct ambiguous and open-ended problems into concrete agent behaviors, defining clear inputs, outputs, and success metrics.
You are experienced in writing clean, testable code and implementing robust unit tests to verify the correctness of software components.
You show a proven capacity to operate effectively in fast-paced, dynamic environments where priorities can shift rapidly based on stakeholder needs.
You communicate clearly and professionally, both in writing and verbally, ensuring technical concepts are accessible to diverse audiences.
You exhibit strong ownership and accountability, taking initiative to solve problems independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional partners.
