You will work closely with cross-functional partners to define architectural direction and lead the implementation of features that span navigation, maps, and search capabilities. Your work will directly influence how developers build and ship location-aware experiences, from consumer apps to complex enterprise solutions. You will mentor engineers, contribute to technical strategy, and ensure that our SDKs remain robust, scalable, and easy to integrate. This role requires a deep understanding of mobile platforms and a commitment to writing clean, maintainable code that stands the test of time.

What you'll do
Define and oversee the implementation of large-scale, cross-functional projects that impact multiple Mapbox SDKs.
Ensure quality by driving improvements in development processes, code quality standards, and best practices across engineering teams.
Engage in technical conversations and decisions that affect long-term strategic direction, scalability, and platform integrity.
Act as a technical mentor and resource for the team, fostering professional development and knowledge-sharing among engineers.
Design expressive and user-friendly APIs for developers using Mapbox SDKs, focusing on clarity and ease of adoption.
Deliver high-quality features in collaboration with peers and cross-functional teams, maintaining a high bar for product reliability.
Implement improvements to SDK functionality and developer experience, identifying bottlenecks and proposing innovative solutions.
Dive into cross-platform implementations underlying our frameworks to ensure seamless integration and consistent behavior across platforms.
Debug, profile, and optimize performance issues affecting the Maps SDK, using data to guide optimization efforts.
Read, navigate, and contribute to the AOSP codebase when needed to resolve complex integration challenges.
Familiarize yourself with the C++ components that interact with our Android and iOS SDKs to improve interoperability.
Advocate for testing methodologies and frameworks that increase confidence in releases and reduce regression risk.
Champion usability and great user experience, ensuring that developer-facing tools are intuitive and well-documented.
Maintain a strong focus on earning and keeping customer trust through reliable releases, clear communication, and responsive problem-solving.
Requirements
Demonstrated history of shipping complex Android applications and SDKs to production.
Experience with native Android technologies, such as Kotlin and Java, is required for effective development and maintenance.
Experience with testing methodologies and frameworks to ensure code reliability and coverage.
A strong focus on usability and great user experience when designing interfaces and workflows.
Desire to build frameworks and developer tools that empower other engineers to succeed.
