What you'll do
- Lead large-scale, cross-functional technical initiatives and oversee project implementation from conception to delivery.
- Establish and maintain high standards for code quality, testing, and development workflows across the Navigation SDK.
- Contribute to long-term strategic planning regarding platform scalability, performance, and architectural integrity.
- Mentor team members and facilitate internal knowledge sharing to elevate the overall capability of the engineering organization.
- Design developer-friendly APIs and implement new features that enhance the functionality and usability of our SDKs.
- Collaborate closely with product, design, and engineering teams to integrate Maps, Search, and Navigation SDKs into cohesive solutions.
- Perform deep debugging, profiling, and performance optimization across the Android stack to resolve complex technical challenges.
- Analyze cross-platform implementations to ensure functional consistency and parity between Android and other platforms.
- Drive the adoption of modern Android development practices and tooling to improve efficiency and code reliability.
- Own the technical documentation for navigation components to ensure clarity and ease of use for external developers.
- Partner with data science and machine learning teams to incorporate intelligent features into navigation workflows.
- Evaluate third-party libraries and dependencies to ensure they meet the security, performance, and compatibility standards of the SDK.
- Implement automated testing strategies to increase coverage and reduce the risk of regressions in production releases.
- Act as a technical leader in defining non-functional requirements such as latency, memory usage, and battery impact for navigation features.
Requirements
- Minimum 7+ years of professional experience using Kotlin and Java in production environments.
- Proven track record of shipping complex Android applications and SDKs to a wide range of users.
- Proficiency in testing frameworks and methodologies, including unit, integration, and instrumentation testing.
- Ability to navigate and work within AOSP code when necessary to diagnose issues or implement fixes.
- Minimum C1 level fluency in English for daily communication, including written documentation and verbal discussions.
- Demonstrated experience with version control systems, particularly Git, and code review processes.
- Strong understanding of Android framework internals, including activities, services, broadcast receivers, and content providers.
- Experience with multithreading, concurrency, and performance tuning in resource-constrained environments.
Nice to have
- Experience with performance profiling and debugging using tools such as Systrace, Perfetto, and Android Studio Profiler.
- Familiarity with or interest in learning C++ to contribute to cross-platform components and native integrations.
